8.2.

7 ACCESSORIES

8.2.7.1 ANTI-CLIMBING GUARD


Each tower shall be fitted with an approved anti-climbing device with gates which
shall provide climbing facilities for use by authorized personnel. The height of the anti-
climbing device above ground level shall be between 2.0m and 3.5m on the normal
tower height. The anti-climbing devices could be of the "spikes" type or “barbed wire”
type.
Gates should be secured with an approved brass or galvanized steel padlock.

8.2.7.2 TOWER SIGNS


The OHL Sub CONTRACTOR shall furnish all materials for tower signs including all
bolts, nuts, fibre washers front and back, brass eyelets fitted with the holes and sup-
porting structures, if required, for attaching signs to the structure as specified in the
structure list.
The colours of figure and background shall be as described on the drawings and shall
be weather-proof, baked enamel finish paint, vitreous or stove enamel.
The OHL Sub CONTRACTOR is required to make provision in the tower members for
attaching signs at the locations described hereunder.
a) Circuit identification plates
Circuit identification plates shall be fitted to all towers at convenient locations adjacent
to the circuits concerned. One plate per circuit is required.
b) Phase plates
A set of three phase plates shall be attached about three meters from ground level
and above the anti-climbing guards and be provided at all towers. One set of phase
plates are required coloured red, yellow and blue.
c) Danger plates
Danger plates shall be attached about three meters from ground level and above anti-
climbing guards and be provided at every tower.
d) Number plates
Number plates shall be provided one for each tower.
e) Aircraft Warning Spheres and Warning Lights
Aircraft Warning Spheres and Warning Lights on the 33 kV OHLs are to be provided
according to statutory requirements.

8.2.7.3 STEP BOLTS


Each tower shall be provided with step bolts of an approved type on two diagonally
opposite legs spaced alternately on the angle flanges at not more than 380 mm be-
tween centres, starting immediately above the anti-climbing device and continuing to
each earth wire. The minimum diameter of the step bolts shall be 16 mm. Step bolts
shall not be used as connection bolts.
