Changes for Version 6.4.1

From this version, the selection procedure for indoor

units and outdoor units have completely changed.

1.Xpress now selects a reasonable unit size which covers the

required(=space heat) load.

-Indoor units
The selection can now be completed regardless of the outdoor unit.

-Outdoor units
An outdoor unit which covers the total required load of the space will be
selected.Instead of proportional distribution of its capacity, the actual amount
required from the indoor unit will be distributed.

In case Sensible Heat Factor(SHF) is relatively high, the required total

capacity(Rq TC) may be increased to satisfy the designed condition depending on
the characteristic of the indoor unit.

2.Sensible heat capacity (SHC) now completely consists with the

Engineering Data Book.

3.VAM devices can now be connected.

---------------------------------For Advanced Users-------------------------------

4.A new function “

Operational Load”has been added.
See Chapter6.Outdoor unit selection for details.

5.Extension of Tolerance and a new function “Safety factor”has

been implemented.

1. Introduction
1-1. Purpose of VRVXpress

VRVXpress”is a selection software of VRV.

VRVXpress”helps your quick selection for quotation with easy operation.

1-2. Limitations on Selection

VRVXpress”has some limitations on selection.

1) VRVXpress doesn’ t accept the design temperature outside the scope of

the capacity table range. Please be sure that the design temperature is
within the capacity table range, not the operation range, listed in the
Engineering Databook.
2) The order of indoor units on the [piping] tab and the [wiring] tab is linked.
Thus, if the actual piping layout is different from the field wiring, you
cannot place the indoor units so as to fit both of them. In other words, if
you place the indoor units to fit the actual piping layout, the wiring
diagram will not correspond to the field diagram, and vice versa.
3) The indication of “ Has group address”in the indoor unit selection window
is not linked with the wiring tab.If you define the indoor unit “
not”to have
a group address, you will have to manually remove the connected
remote controller and reconnect to the master remote controller. The
group address is only used for calculating the number of groups that can
be connected to centralized controllers.
4) Some options, (e.g wiring adaptors) are not displayed in the [Wiring] tab.

5-10. Tolerance and Safety factor
After selecting the system without using tolerance or safety factor, it’
s possible to
select a smaller indoor unit by using tolerance or a larger indoor unit by using the
safety factor.

5-10-1.What is tolerance?
It’
s the percentage that the Rq TC of an indoor unit is allowed to be reduced from its
original value.
Users must be well aware that using tolerance will not cover the original required load
and might not lead to an optimum air-conditioned space.
Generally, 3% or more of tolerance may lead to a one size smaller indoor unit.

A one size smaller

indoor unit
becomes available.

*Tolerance will only be applied when a smaller indoor unit can be found.
*After applying tolerance, Rq TC will become 5.7 x (1-0.04)=5.5kW.

30
5-10-2.What is safety factor?
Indoor unit safety factor

You can use this function when you want to consider extra capacity in case of future
increasing appliances.Generally, 10-15% or more of safety factor may lead to a one
size larger indoor unit.

After applying safety factor, Rq TC will become 5.1 x(1+0.1)=5.61kW.

Thus, a one size larger indoor unit is selected.

31

from the drop-down list. (2)
The family (heat pump, heat recovery (3)
or cooling only) depends on the (4)
models the software includes.
3) Select the VRV series from the drop-
down list. The drop-down list varies
depending on the models the
software includes.

The icon of the outdoor unit changes depending on the selected family (type).
: Heat Pump (Green) : Heat Recovery (Blue and Red) : Cooling Only (Blue)

4) Select the connection ratio between indoor units and outdoor unit from the drop-down
list, or input the ratio to the list box manually.
VRVXpress selects the outdoor unit so that the connection ratio is equal or less than
the selected value.
5) Click [Select Options] to select options for the outdoor units.
(See section 6-5 for details)

35
6) Input the outdoor design temperature. --
-DB(=dry bulb) for cooling.
-DB and WB(=wetbulb)orRH(=Relative
humidity) for heating.

The temperatures should be chosen

inside the scope of the capacity table.

7)Choose how to define the piping length.

[Simplified Input]
Uncheck the [Enter individual piping length
manually] check box and input the
[Equivalent piping length] and the
[Actual piping length from the first branch to the nearest/furthest indoor unit].
Note:To calculate additional refrigerant, input piping length individually.

*Equivalent piping length: the piping length between the outdoor unit and the farthest
indoor unit. (The pressure drop due to bends and Refnets have to be included in this
total.) Used to correct the capacity of the outdoor unit.

*First branch to the nearest indoor unit: the actual piping length between the first
branch to the nearest indoor unit.Used to check if it complies with piping limitations.
* First branch to the furthest indoor unit: the actual piping length between the first
branch to the furthest indoor unit. Used to check if it complies with piping limitations.

[Manual Input]
Check the [Enter individual piping length
manually] check box, and then you can input the
individual piping length manually on the [Piping] tab.

By inputting piping length individually…

1.The outdoor unit capacity will be calculated even more precisely.
2.The piping rules will be checked.
3.The additional refrigerant to be charged will be calculated.
(See section 7-2-3)

8)Select the position of the outdoor units relative to the indoor units.
When choosing “ Higher”or “ Lower”, you can manually enter the difference in height .

36
9) Σindoor total capacity:Total of Rq TC(including Rv TC) orTC=100%Operational load.
(See below example)

5.6kW

In this case 5.6+5.0+5.6+5.6+5.6+5.0+5.6=38.0kW

Here the operational load percentage is default set to 100%. 1)

2)

10) Should you decide that not all these units would be in simultaneous operation
or decide that the system peak load(=Operational load) is smaller than the sum of
the total capacity, you could decide to downsize the installed systems capacity by
the following three methods.
1) As a percentage of the total load (for both cooling and heating)
2) As an absolute value (kW) (for both cooling and heating)
3) By selecting the indoors units that operate simultaneously. In this case,
make the selection for the most dominant mode (cooling or heating)

(b): Right-Click an indoor unit and
choose NOT to use for

(a)

Needless to say that this is a delicate

decision, that is why the next message
pops-up:

37
11)Safety Factor for outdoor units

The safety factor for outdoor units can be set in the preference tab.

Without safety factor

10 HP is selected
based on the
original total Rq
TC.

With safety factor

12 HP is
selected based
on the 10%
larger total Rq
TC.
25.7 x 1.1 = 28.3 < 33.5

Even after applying safety factor, total Rq TC shows the same 25.7kW as the
original load.On the other hand, the Rq TC for selecting the OU becomes 10%
larger than the original load.

38
6-4. Connect Indoor Units to Outdoor Units

change unless you delete an outdoor unit.

43
6-9. Change the Order of Indoor Units

The order of indoor units is very important for the piping layout.
Define the order in consideration of the actual indoor units grouping and piping
layout.

To define the order, recommended basic rules are:

- Create indoor units groups (e.g. units for each room)

- Change the order of groups based on the distance from the outdoor unit
(from the farthest group to the nearest group)
- Organize the indoor units in the group, by number (name)

In the case of the next figure, recommended order is :

3-1 3-2 2-1 2-2 2-3 1-1 1-2 1-3
farthest group nearest group

1-1 1-2 1-3 2-1 2-2 2-3 3-1 3-2

See section 7-3 for reference.

To change the order of the indoor

units, drag and drop indoor units in
the system list window.

To insert Unit 1 before Unit 2, drop

Unit 1 onto Unit 2.
To move to the last position, drop
the indoor unit onto the outdoor unit.

Changing the order of indoor units

will affect the [piping] and [wiring]
diagrams.

Note:
Changing the order in the
[Outdoor Units] tab page has no
relation with the order of indoor
units on the [Indoor Units] tab page.
The order should be defined
according to actual layout.

44

7-4. Printing Large Piping Diagrams
When the piping diagram is printed in the report, it is always printed “
shrink to fit
page” . For VRV systems with many indoor units, this results in a report where
the names of the units are no longer readable. Therefore, it is possible to cut the
diagram into several parts and label each part. Each part is then printed on
another page in the report, with its label in the sub diagram title.

Example of reports

The cuts need to be defined in the [Piping] tab. You

can define a cut by clicking on the intermediate pipe
part where you want to cut the diagram. Then right
click and select “
Enter Sub diagram label” .

The screen “Enter Subdiagram Label”appears,

which allows to enter a label for the subdiagram.
Suppose we enter “ A”.

62
After entering the label, click
“OK” . The label “A”appears on
the intermediate pipe that will
be cut.

Enter the other cuts in the

same way. It is advisable to
create the .rtf-output to see the
result. If you are satisfied with
the result, save your project.
The labels are stored within
the project.

In order to print the complete

piping diagram again in the
report, all the labels need to be
removed.
To remove a label, click on the
intermediate pipe labeled.
Right click and select “Enter
Subdiagram Label” . The “Enter
Subdiagram Label”screen
appears, with the label you
have entered. Delete the label
and click “OK” . The label is
now removed. Repeat this
procedure for each label that
was defined. Afterwards, save
your project to remove the
labels permanently.

It is possible to set the same system on a multiple selection

of devices in a single action.

1) Select the multiple indoor units by

clicking on the Ctrl key .

2) Right-click on a unit and select the

function.

Note:
In multiple selection, the next four
functions are available:

-No inter-wired remote controller

Note:
-To remove a unit from the control group; right-click and select [No Inter-wired
Remote Controller], and add the remote controller again as an option.
-The wiring layout is just a reference. It is defined as a sequential layout and
cannot be defined as desired.
Also, some options (e.g. wiring adapter, BEV unit) are ignored.

9-2. Example of Connection
Adding several systems with a varying number of indoor units. The whole site will be
managed by an Intelligent Touch Controller, whilst some part of the building is controlled
by one Unified ON/OFF and other parts of the building/site by other Unified ON/OFF in a
so-called “
Control Group” .

Step 1

Drag the outdoor units (one by one) to the ‘

Control Groups’zone

The total number of outdoor units (8) and indoor units (170) in the control group is indicated

Step 2

Drag the controller

68
Drag and drop the controller
to the ‘
specific controller’
zone.
Note that 12 Unified
ON/OFF will be required.

It is also possible to select a

global controller.

To control the 170 indoor

units
12 Unified ON/OFF and
two ITC and two DIII Net
Plus Adaptor will be
required.

9-3. The Control Wiring-tab

Access to wiring by clicking “
Control Wiring”or “
To wiring”.

Number of indoor
units connected to
each outdoor unit

Notice that the logic numbering of the outdoor units is changed…

The program will look for the best / most economical way to connect
a maximum of 16 indoor unit groups to one Unified ON/OFF.
In this example, the outdoor units 1,6,4,7 and 8 are connected to the first four Unified ON/OFF.
The sum of the indoor units is 64, which the four Unified can take care of.
The rest of the outdoor units are connected the same way.

The whole site is also managed by one Intelligent Touch Controller. (global controller)

69
9-4. Adding a split and Moving units in the central control group

The selection software will automatically add units

to a centralized controller.
To do so, it is very likely that the combinations will
not correspond to the physical location of the
outdoor units.
Consequently the “ F1/F2 OUT”cabling will need to
be routed according to the sequence decided by the
program.

This is not always possible or is not always

convenient…

Thereto, a split can be made or units can be

moved.

1) Select the unit above which you want to add the split in the system.
2) Click on “
Add Split”

70
split

Using this possibility, we refuse the optimum result proposed by the software…
This results into the need for one more Unified ON/OFF.

You can move a unit to “above the split”

or to “
below the Split”by selecting the unit
and then use the arrow buttons.

To remove the split:

Select the split by
clicking on it and
then “ Remove Split”

71
9-5. Select options for centralized controllers

Click to select the options for the controller.

LONWORKS

selection

The more control points selected,

The less indoor units can be connected
to the LON interface

24 SNV / unit x 64 units = 1536

+ 7 General SNVT’ s
1543 Default setting: 7 SNVT
/ indoor
However, only 300 of them can be (300 –7) / 7 = max 41
used due to LON bus restrictions indoors
(to guarantee data transmission)! on one F1/F2 circuit
 More SNVT’ s* = Less indoors A standard refresh rate of 30 seconds is used.
* SNV: Standard Network Variables = control points
** SNVT’s: [snivits] Standard Network Variable Types

9-6. Edit control group name

Click to change the name
of the control group.

72
9-7. F1F2 communication
In the Advanced tab of the Preferences screen,
the default setting is that all indoor units receive
a group address. The number of group addresses
is used to check if it’
s within the limitation of
controllers.

Even if you would decide that indoor units work

as master/slave on one remote controller, every
indoor should still get its group address.

If you would deselect this item, the following indoor

listing would be seen. If you select a single unit
from that list, you can individually edit it (double
click) to make the group address choice.

Remove
controller from
the slave indoor
unit.

Connect to the
master indoor
unit.

Edit indoor and allow to

deselect the group
address setting.
Defining master/slave
must be done in the wiring
tab.

73
9-8.Limitations

max 128 indoors

maximum 64 addressed indoors
 ex.It’s possible to have 35 addressed and 93 unaddressed indoor units on one
F1/F2circuit.
maximum 10 outdoor systems (an outdoor system can consist out of several modules )

Important Remarks:
•In case the user selects PPD option (available on iTouchManager or BACnet)
then the max. indoor limitation is 64 (all indoors need to be addressed)
•LON Gateway SNVT limitation, see 9-5.
