COMPONENTS IN LIFT

1.Control panel

Control panel is an electronic control system that direct the cars to the correct floors using a so-called
“elevator algorithm”. The system control the way up and down of the lift and the certain weight that
can be handle by the lift. This controller usually tune down the voltage between 12V to 24V to
controlling sytem. The control panel also can be use to set the floor limit of the elevator.
2.Safety circuit

Safety circuit includes a safety switch which includes an input for an electrical safety signal as well as
an output. This includes a plurality of relays which is safety logic for monitoring status of the plurality
of relays. All safety switches are connected in series, controlling a safety relay. When safety switch
are on, the safety relay are close and the elevator run electrically.
3.Inspection box

Inspection box usually use when there is maintenance of the elevator. Usually it was use to provide
access to the hoistway and car top for inspection. Inspection box have the access to stop the elevator
from functioning during maintenance.
4.Lift DC/AC motor

This is the mechanical component that are use to lift up the car(metal box). DC motor produce high
starting torque but its speed varies as the changes in mechanical load. The lift motor were linked with
car(metal box) by lift cable. For safety features, emergency brake is attached to the motor so if there
any problem with the lift it will automatically stop.
5.Lift cable

Lift cable are the link between the motor and the car. It is responsible for the power and signal
transmission. There are usually multi conductor cables constantly in motion, therefore they need to
have a long life span. Usually lift cable was designed for minimum strain. There are few main
requirements for the the lift cables such as strength, flexibility, torsional balance, minimize vibration,
abrasion resistance, flame resistance and low temperature performance.
6.Governor

Governor is a speed monitoring device on traction elevators that triggers safety mounted on the car
frame when there is over speed on the elevator. Usually governor will stop the elevator when it detect
the over speed rate of the elevator. The governor rope runs over the governer sheave and down do the
elevator car and is attached to safety trip mechanism. If an elevator over speed because the
malfunction of the mechanical or the suspension rope are severed, the governor’s rope griping jaw is
activated to sieze the governer rope.
7.Lift door

Door on the car are operated by an electric motor which hooked up to elevator computer. Usually car
door have motion sensor that prevent the door to close when there is somebody between them. The
clutch mechanism are use to unlock the outer door and pull them open.
8.Door sensor

Door sensor are used to detect if somebody are between the door so the door will not automatically
close. This is one of the safety features on lift. This sensor usually called motion sensor which detect
the motion between the door.
9.Door lock

It is use to lock all the door in each floor and open it by clutch mechanism. The door will not open
until the car arrive at the floor. Then the clutch mechanism will operated to open the door.
10.Hydraulic buffer

Hydraulic buffer are the last measure of safety in case of a system failure. They are positioned, at the
end of traverses or integrated between systems to brake a system or stop the system in controlled
manner in case of emergency stop. Collision and damages can be avoided.
11.Counter weight

Counterweight is a weight that exerting an opposite force that provides balance and stability of a
mechanical system. The purpose is to make lifting the load more efficient which saves energy and less
taxing on the lift.
12.Lift brake

The lift brake was use to slow and stop the motor so that the lift could slow down and stop. The
machine brake stops and holds the elevator or just hold it after an electrical stop. The elevator
operated in its normal mode when this brake function.
