EXT. – HARAJUKU, TOKYO – MORNING

It’s an April morning. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom,
with their petals falling in the wind, giving the impression
that it is snowing.
(MASOTO WALKS PAST A GIRL.)
(HE LOOKS BACK.)
(HIS EYES WIDEN.)
(PUPILS DILATE.)
The GIRL, doesn’t stand out from the colourful crowd, with her
shabby clothes as she is seen wearing a plain top, jeans and
sneakers. She has bed hair. The CAMERA PANS IN as we get a
glimpse of what she looks like from the front.
The GIRL isn’t young, and is seemingly in her 30’s.
(MASOTO’s HEART BEATS.)
(HE WETS HIS LIPS WITH HIS TONGUE AND SWALLOWS HARD.)
MASOTO (V.O.):
Maybe you have your own particular favourite type of
girl - one with slim ankles,
(GIRL CROSSES STREET,CAMERA ZOOMS TO HER A ANKLES)
big eyes… (CAMERA PANS IN ON HER EYES WHILST SHE
LOOKS AT HER SURROUNDINGS AND ADMIRES HOW THE NATURE
BELNDS IN WITH URBAN LANDSCAPE)
or graceful fingers, (CAMERA PANS IN ON GIRL’s
HAND)or you’re drawn for no good reason to girls who
take their time with every meal.(CAMERA SHOWS THE
GIRL AT A STAND BUYING A DORAYAKI.)
I have my own preferences, of course.
INT. – WESTERN RESTAURANT - MEMORY FLASH – EARLY EVENING
MASOTO (V.O.):
Sometimes in a restaurant I’ll catch myself staring
at the girl at the next table to mine (CAMERA SLIDES
TO THE SIDE TO GET A GLIMPSE OF A RANDOM GIRL)
because I like the shape of her nose. (CLOSE UP OF
HER FACE, THEN NOSE.)
Much as I like noses, I can’t recall the shape of
hers - or even if she had one (MID SHOT OF HER

WALIKNIG PAST A VOLDEMORT POSTER). All I can

remember for sure is that she was no great beauty.
It’s weird. (CLOSE UP OF HER FROM SHOULDER UP)
A light breeze blows, allowing the blossom petals to fall. The
GIRL tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear. (SLOW MOTION)

INT. – CLASSROOM – EARLY MORNING

TADASHI, 17, who receives top grades despite his delinquent
behaviour, decides to grab a chair a sit opposite to MASOTO,
who was enjoying his time with his book.
MASOTO:
Yesterday on the street I passed the 100% girl.

TADASHI:
Yeah? (TADASHI PAUSES)
Good-looking?
MASOTO:
Not really.
TADASHI:
Your favourite type, then?
MASOTO:
I don’t know. I can’t seem to remember anything
about her.
TADASHI:
Strange.
MASOTO:
Yeah. Strange.
TADASHI:
So anyhow… ( SPEAKS IN A BORED TONE)
what did you do? Talk to her? Follow her?
MASOTO:
Nah. Just passed her on the street.
