TOPIC: Communication Models
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
A. Differentiates the various models of communication (EN/12OC-Ia-3)
B. Distinguish the unique features of one communication process from another (EN/120C-Ia-4)
C. Explain why there is a breakdown of communication (EN/120OC-Ia-5)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
 Differentiate the various models of communication
 Distinguish the unique features of one communication process from the other.
 Explain why there is a breakdown of communication
II. MATERIALS
A. EQUIPMENT: pen, paper, black board, chalk, book
B. REFERENCES: Oral Communication in Context (DepEd Student Manual, Chapter 1)
III. PROCEDURES:
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITY
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking of attendance
4. Classroom management
5. Review
Ask the students what is communication and explain the seven elements of
communication.
B. DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON
1. Motivation: Teacher will tell the students that there are different kinds of communication
models.
2. Presentation:
The Next Top Model
Examine the following model of communication and pick that which you think best
represents the situations were assigned the previous activity. Discuss your answer with your group mates.

Model 1: Shannon-Weaver’s Model of Communication


Model 2: Scramm’s Model of Communication- Osgood- Schramm Communication Model
Model 3: Berlo’s SMRC Model of Communication
3. Activities
Answer the following questions
1. What model is similar to your diagram?
2. What is noise? Identify in the illustration.
3. How does the noise affect the transmission of a message?
4. How important is decoding and encoding?

4. Application
The models present the elements of the message: content, elements, treatment, structure
and code.
Valuing: prevention of noise
C. EVALUATION
Answer the following question on your activity manual:
1. How would you avoid communication breakdown caused by noise?
2. Is an interpreter needed for encoding and decoding? Why do you say so?
3. What do you think of model no. 3? Is it too ideal or possible? Why or why not?
4. Give the advantage and disadvantage of each model of communication?

D. ASSIGNMENT
Research the elements of communication.
