HISTORY
The name of the place was derived from the name of a Saint "Roche" in local dialect San Roque. According to the
story, Roque comes from a wealthy family. His father is a "Conde" while his mother regarded as a "Donya". Though he
is rich, Roque wanted to help his neighbors and do penance and sacrifices for the sake of the poor, as Jesus Christ
did. When leprosy spread in his hometown, he left his home and helped those who where afflicted until he contracted
the disease. He went back home but his family rejected him due to his infectious disease. He took refuge at the
farthest town and settled in a mountain called "kabuyuan".
In the mountain, there lived a rich man with his pet dog. Every time the rich man feeds his dog, it went away bringing
with him his food and then came back afterwards. This incidence got the rich man's attention in the wonders where
his dog goes. He followed his dog one time and he as astonished because he found out that the dog brought the food
to a leper.
It was Roque and only a dog takes care of him. When Roque died, the people were sad for they remembered all the
good things that Roque did. According to the ancestors, Roque showed some miracles and people believed that he
was the one who cured those who got sick of the diseases that widespread the area. The people made a replica in
honor of him and constructed a house, which they called "Oraturyo ng Rebulto". Since then, the population increased
until it became a barangay. It was named San Roque, which was taken from Sr. San Roque.
