INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN IN SCIENCE 5

Module 1 (5Es Approach)
Grade Level Five (5) Date: August ___,2019
Quarter Second Quarter Time Allotment: 50 min

Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of how the parts of the human reproductive system
work
Performance Standard The Learners should be able to practice proper hygiene to care of the reproductive system
Learning Competency The learners should be able to describe the different parts of the reproductive system and
their function (S5LT-IIa-1)

I. Learning Objective 3.Give the function of each part of the male reproductive system (K)
4. Describe the function of the male reproductive system (U)
II. Subject Matter Parts and Function of the Male Reproductive System
A. Concept Function of Each Part of the Male Reproductive System
Testes- produces the male sex cells (sperms) and the male sex hormone called
testosterone
Scrotum- Holds or support the testes in place
- It controls the testes’ temperature because they must be slightly cooler than
the body to produce sperms
Epididymis- Serves as storage for sperms produced by the testicles
It brings the sperms to maturity
Vas Deferens- serves as the passageway of the sperm cells released from the testes
Seminal Vesicles-It contributes to the semen production
- It produces a sugar-rich fluid (fructose) that provides sperm with a source of
energy to help them move
Prostate Gland- secretes prostate fluid, one of the components of the semen which help to
nourish the sperm
Urethra-passageway of both urines from the urinary bladder and semen from the glands
Penis- pass urine out of the man’s body and to pass semen into the female organ during
mating
Cowper’s Gland- also called the bulbourethral gland- it is responsible for releasing fluid
that flushes out foreign matters and neutralizes the acidic urine in the urethra
B. Materials Unlabelled Illustration of the Male reproductive system
Meta cards, Chart, Task Sheet
C. References Sarte, Evelyn T. et.al. Vibal Group, Inc., Science Beyond Boarders 5, (2016) pp. 40-43
DepEd (2013), K-12 Science 5 Curriculum Guide
D. Process Skills Observing, Communicating,
E. Value Integration Cooperation, Awareness of the importance of the male reproductive system

III. Learning Tasks

A. ENGAGE  Recall:
Post the unlabelled parts of the male reproductive system.
Call on volunteers to pick a meta card with parts of the male reproductive system
written on it and tag it on the arrowed part and describe the part
How do you think each of this part of the male reproductive system work?
 Building Vocabulary:
“Pick and match”
Have pupils pick the meaning of each word written in a cartolina and match it to
the words listed on the board/manila paper
Sperm Cells
Semen
fluid
Testosterone
It is the reproductive cell of the male
It’s a hormone produced by the human body that affects
man’s appearance and sexual development
The male reproductive fluid containing the sperm
It is a liquid; able to flow easily
Note: In the actual execution, the teacher may not use the color coding
(Process Skills: Observing, inferring, communicating)
B. EXPLORE  Pre-Activity:
 Setting of standards for group activity
- Cooperate with the group members
- Work harmoniously
- Share ideas
- Do not make unnecessary noise
- Stay in your group
- Participate actively
- On task all the time
 Giving of Rubrics for the activity
 Activity Proper
Guide Questions
1. What are the parts of the male reproductive system?
2. How does each part of the male reproductive system work? (Please refer to the
concept for the answers to these guide questions)
Giving of Instructions
- Divide the class into 5
- Assign members to gather data from each station by writing it on their notebook
- Set a specific time for the task
- Members must return to their home group to share the data they’ve gathered as the
teacher press the timer
- Complete the table below
 Station 1

Testes- produces the male sex cells (sperms) and the male sex hormone called
testosterone
Scrotum- Holds or support the testes in place
- It controls the testes’ temperature because they must be slightly cooler
than the body to produce sperms

 Station 2

Epididymis- Serves as storage for sperms produced by the testicles. It brings the sperms
to maturity
Vas Deferens- serves as the passageway of the sperm cells released from the testes
 Station 3
Seminal Vesicles- It contributes to the semen production

- It produce a sugar-rich fluid (fructose) that provides sperm with a source of

energy to help them move

Prostate Gland- secretes prostate fluid, one of the components of the semen which help to
nourish the sperm
 Station 4

Urethra- passageway of both urines from the urinary bladder and semen from the glands
Penis- pass urine out of the man’s body and to pass semen into the female organ during
mating

 Station 5
Cowper’s Gland- also called the bulbourethral gland- it is responsible for releasing
fluid that flushes out foreign matters and neutralizes the acidic urine in the urethra

Task Sheet for each group

Scrotum
Cowper’s Gland
(Process Skills: Observing, Communicating)
C. EXPLAIN  Let the reporter of each group present their output
 Teacher will process after all outputs have presented
(Teacher will take down incorrect answers/information to be used during the processing)
 How were you able to come up with the correct answers in your activity?
(Emphasize Cooperation to highlight the value)

(The teacher has the opportunity to introduce formal terms, definitions, and explanations for
concepts)
(Process Skills: Communicating,)
D. ELABORATE  Concept Formation
- What is the function of each part of the Male Reproductive System?
“Pick a strip of cartolina displayed on the board where function is written and tag
it appropriately on the side of given part.”
- Have the pupils read the concepts learned, (Whole class, by group then
individually)

 Do you like to find out how sperms travel through each part of the male reproductive
system?
 Have pupils watch a video showing the path of the sperms cells as it travels from the
testes to the urethra
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4nEzMxgZaA
 “Order Me Around Cards” (parts of the male reproductive system are printed in meta
cards)
 Sequence the parts as to the correct path of the sperms cells
as it travels from the testes to the urethra
(Emphasize Awareness of the Importance of Male Reproductive System to highlight
the value)
 (Process Skills: Communicating, Inferring,)
