Warm-up and Objective Discussion

To build an interested audience, I would ask these questions, “What do you think about
August? Can you describe it in a word, or a sentence perhaps?
If you were shown a picture of leaves falling from trees how would you feel about it?”

Instruct and Model  R  W  L  S

First, the poem should be read to them and then it should be translated and simplified by
giving word meanings. The students should be allowed to ask anything they do not understand
about the poem.

Guided Practice  R  W  L  S
Students should write down in their notebooks the difficult words and their meanings. Then,
they should write the original poem also.

Independent Practice  R  W  L  S

Students should be given a quite moment to read the poem by themselves about three or four
times and then describe their understanding of it.
Then they should compare their own feelings of August and Fall weather to those of the poet
and see if there’s a similarity or difference.

Assessment  R  W  L  S

I would check if the student has written the poem in a precise manner and any mistakes. Then
I would ask them to tell me what each difficult word means.
