Career Development

Since then, I always plan of becoming a civil engineer. Civil engineering is a very broad
and vast one. In a nutshell, this field includes public works in regards to maintaining, constructing,
and planning fixed structures within the area. To be in this career, for me, is an honor and I think
that this kind of career will be an avenue for me to carry out my skills more and for me to give
my life the feeling of fulfillment in the near future and live my life to the fullest potential.

E – Experience:
Motivation, for me, is one of the factors that affect my choice of career because sometimes
I could not find any motivation to study hard for the future that I want. I lose my motivation
sometimes because sometimes I doubt on what will happen to the sufferings and efforts that I
am exerting now. I doubt on my own success that’s why I lose my motivation to do whatever it
takes to be a successful person.
One of the external factors that affect my choice of career is the peer pressure. Majority
of my friends prefer to be in the medical field and among my circle, I am the only one who chose
engineering that’s why it’s not easy for me to pursue the said career. My friends are always telling
me to choose medical courses and they make me realize that we won’t be together in college
when I’ll be taking up civil engineering.
R – Reflection:
Increased self-awareness and personal development really helped me in choosing my
career and goals in life. I’ve learned how to assess myself and my capabilities. These helped me
discover what I want and where I am good at. Knowing one’s self is really essential in career
choice. If you know who you really are and your limit, it would be easier for you to know what
you want to be in the future. And so the personal development, it will boost you into your fullest
potential. To achieve a certain goal in life, we need to be in our fullest potential. You need to be
well developed as an individual, in all aspects.

E – Evaluation:
Based on my experience in our recent ISF Values Formation Activity, I realized that being
a teacher was fun and fulfilling especially when you see the smiles on the faces of the students.
When I assessed myself during those times, I think I have the potential of becoming a teacher.
I found happiness and satisfaction through teaching. If given a chance, when I’ll be a civil
engineer already, I would be teaching engineering students or even the senior high school STEM
students. Also, I want to improve the way I teach by having enough patience for those students
who doesn’t behave well in class. Career is a lifetime choice. The future depends on what you do
today.
