Answer: MATH IS FUN
must be equal to zero. As fast as you can, within 3 minutes, search for words that you
hope the other players won’t find.
In the scoring phase, each group reads off their list of discovered words. If the
other group wrote the same word, it is removed from all group lists. For all words
remaining after duplicates have been eliminated, points are awarded based on the
length of the word.
Write what part of speech is being used in each word. Construct a sentence out
of that word.

A. Activity “Jigsaw”
Directions: You will be grouped into four with ten members. Each group will be called Home
Groups. Each pair will have chunk cards with problems to solve the remainder of the
polynomial P(x). You are given 2 minutes to answer it. After that, you are going to
your respective color chunk cards (yellow, green, pink, blue and gray). Now it will be
called the Expert Group. In the Expert Group, you are going to discuss how did you
arrive at your answer based on the color chunk cards within 2 minutes.
P(x) = 𝑥 3 + 6𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 11 P(x) = 𝑥 3 − 2𝑥 2 − 𝑥 + 2
P(-2) = (−2)3 + 6(−2)2 + 3(−2) − 11 P(2) = (2)3 − 2(2)2 − (2) + 2
P(-2) = -1 P(2) =0
B. Analysis
C. Abstraction
The Factor Theorem
The polynomial P(x) has x – r as a factor if and only if P(r) = 0.
Example: Show that (x – 1) is a factor of 3x3 – 8x2 + 3x + 2.
Solution: P(x) = 3x3 – 8x2 + 3x + 2
P (1) = 3(1)3 – 8(1)2 + 3(1) + 2
= 3(1) – 8(1) + 3 + 2
=3–8+3+2
P (1) = 0
D. Application
Directions: The class will be divided according to their chosen profession. Group of Fashion
Designers, Architects/Engineers, Chefs, and others. The teacher will give the polynomial P(x)
and the D(x) / (x-r). Each group will show that (x-r) is a factor of the polynomial P(x).
Fashion Designers: The group will design a dress in a manila paper using coloring
materials. The design of the dress should contain the mathematical solution
showing that (x-2) is a factor of P(x) 4x4 – 15x2 – 2.
Chefs: The group will make a recipe of their desired dish in a manila paper. It
should contain the name of the dish, the preparation time, cooking time,
ingredients and the procedure. The procedure should contain the mathematical
solution showing that (b+1) is a factor of P(x) b6 + b5 + b + 1.
Architects/Engineers: The group will make a floor plan of their desired bungalow
house in a manila paper. It should contain the area where the living room, dining
room, bedroom, comfort room and kitchen are located. The location starting from
the front door should contain the mathematical solution showing that (a-1) is a
factor of P(x) a3 – 2a2 - a + 2.
Other Profession: The group will compose a song with the tune of “We can be
anything” by Apl.de.Ap in a manila paper. The lyrics should contain the
mathematical solution showing that (x+1) is a factor of P(x) x3 + x2 + x + 1.

IV. ASSESSMENT
Show that (x + 3) is a factor of the polynomial P(x) below:
1. (2𝑥 3 + 3𝑥 2 − 8𝑥 + 3)
Answer:
P(x) = (2𝑥 3 + 3𝑥 2 + 8𝑥 + 13)
P(-3) = (2(−3)3 + 3(−3)2 + 8(−3) + 13)
= 2(-8) + 3(9) - 24 + 13
=0
2. (𝑥 3 − 11𝑥 − 6)
Answer:
P(x) = (𝑥 3 − 11𝑥 − 6)
P(-3) = ((−3)3 − 11(−3) − 6)
= - 27 + 33 – 6
=0
V. AGREEMENT
Factor the following polynomials.
1. 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 4
2. 𝑥 2 − 81
3. 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 4
4. 2𝑥 3 + 5𝑥 2 − 3
5. 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 𝑥 − 2
