CLOSING THE DIVIDE

1. Smart devices
Yes, it is not new but smart devices are becoming better and better and cheaper than ever before
so connecting to the world has become more accessible. The percentage of people in the US who
own a smartphone has increased by over 10% in two years and in Africa, the number has
skyrocketed. With most of the urban cities in Africa now have access to the internet the people
now use smart devices more frequently now, so the division gap is being close fast.
2. Bluetooth message
In the darkest time in Hong Kong without access to the internet people connect with each other
through an app called Bridgefy that uses Bluetooth to send a message. This technology can be
used worldwide to provide people with a cheap and fast way to connect people without a Wi-Fi
connection. Especially in Africa wherein the rural area there are little to no internet accessibility
then this way of communicating is very helpful.
