TOPIC 2: TECHNOLOGY

1. What technology do you often use, computers or cell phones?

Both! I use my computer and mobile phone every day, pretty much. I work on my
computer and I use my phone to message people and go on social media. Although,
nowadays, it's quite easy to get the same apps on both devices. For example, I have
WhatsApp on both my computer and phone so I can use either when I want to message
someone.

2. What electronic devices have you bought lately?

So I bought a new pair of bluetooth earbuds. I really like them because the audio quality
is excellent and they are noise-cancelling. They're also really useful for me because they
have a long battery-life. I listen to music pretty much twenty-four-seven so I can drain the
battery pretty quickly , but these ones go the distance.

3. Is there any technology you want to buy?

I would love to buy a new speaker for my room. As I said, I love music and audio
quality means a lot to me because good audio quality means that you can experience the
music in a much better way. My current speaker is very old and it's
quite temperamental. However, new speakers are quite expensive and I don't have the
money at the moment!

4. Is technology important in your life?

Yes, incredibly. Without technology, I don't think I could function. I need my computer

most of all because I work from it. I wouldn't be able to earn money if I didn't have it. My
phone is also really important. I need to call friends and family
in emergencies. What would happen if my mum, for example, hurt herself and I was out
and didn't have my phone?

5. Is there any technology you don't like?

To be honest, I think e-cigarettes and vapes are causing massive harm to
society. Although they may help you quit smoking, they can also be addictive and they
contain harsh chemicals which can harm people's health. Also, disposable e-cigarettes are
also very bad for the environment. I sometimes see people putting these in the bin
or throwing them on the ground. I hate this!

6. What do you think are the trends in technology today compared to

when you were young?
Nowadays, there is a new technological invention every other week or month. For
example, look at Apple who produces a new smartphone every year
with minimal changes. This is a new trend because in the past,
technology improved very slowly . For example, phones and computers in the 1980s
did not have as many developments compared to now.

7. How much time do you spend using a computer at

work or at home?
I work on the computer for about 4 to 6 hours every day, either to do projects or my
home homework. It is useful for other extra-hour activities, too, including watching
YouTube, editing my new videos and podcasts, and chatting with my friends, all of
which can take up to two hours every day.

8. Have you ever bought anything online?

I recently purchased a lot of items online, mostly from e-commerce platforms.
Sometimes I think I'm addicted to shopping, but I can't seem to stay away from the
tempting promotion deals. My last purchase was a cleaning kit for my cute dogs.

9. Do you believe that people today rely too much on

technology?
Honestly, I have to admit that technology gives us numerous benefits. But in fact,
people nowadays do rely on technological devices a lot. In some cases, it can damage
our relationships and mental health. For example, students are wired to use
smartphones all day and neglect their studies, which can lead to bad academic
performance.

PART 3:
1. Do you think we need to understand computers on a
deeper level?
I believe that understanding how to use a computer is essential for people in this digital
age. The first and most fundamental thing to know is about Microsoft Office
applications. Nowadays, all things are digitized, and computer literacy is a must for
every corporation. Besides, everyone of us now has a virtual life on the Internet.
What I mean by social networking sites Being able to use social media effectively means
you can connect to people better, which facilitates your life.

2. What is the most impactful piece of technology in our

time?
As I mentioned before, I think that social media is the most powerful invention of
humans so far. Maybe I’m a little biased because I work in the digital marketing field.

Social media plays a pivotal role in communications between businesses and consumers
or between organizations and residents. In the past, people could acknowledge
information from official publishers or websites, but now social media users can easily
access the news immediately through user-generated content from fan pages.

3. How do computers affect our everyday life?

On the whole, I would say positively that computers benefit us significantly in terms of
apps for education as well as work. They also provide a large number of other tools for
researching and writing an essay.

Let’s take money transactions as an example. In the past, people needed to meet a
banker to withdraw cash, but now there are internet banking systems and ATM
machines. So technology makes everything in our society better.

4. What modern technological devices are most common

in your country?
From my observation, smartphones are widely used among people of all ages and walks
of life. Everyone has a smartphone for himself or herself to communicate with others.
Besides, smartphones are definitely so portable and handy that they can replace the
work of other devices like laptops or tablets in unexpected situations.

5. What are the advantages of modern technology?

There is no denying that technology has numerous advantages in terms of
communication and entertainment, but I think education is where it really excels.
I say this because everyone has the ability to learn thanks to technological
advancements like the internet. I mean, traditional education is far more expensive than
the internet, which has no restrictions.

For instance, a few decades ago, if a person lived in a remote or underdeveloped

location, they might not have had access to a library or a good school. As a result, it was
probably very challenging for them to improve their knowledge. Nowadays, almost any
subject can be learned online from anywhere in the world as long as you have a wifi
connection.
