Cellphones as we know have been invented since the 1990s, and this invention

has been one of the best inventions in history. The use of cell phones became
popular and people began to utilize them in their daily lives. Nowadays, having
a cell phone is not a luxury but a necessity. According to the statistics in Peru,
82.2% of Peruvian homes have at least one phone to connect to the internet.
But sadly, cell phones have made positive and negative changes in our culture
depending on how people use them.
First of all, a positive effect of cell phones is easy communication and
multitasking. The main usage of the cell phone was to be able to communicate
easily. Originally, the cell phone was made only to talk with other people,
whether they were at work or outside their houses. But year after year, they
have been creating new technology that allows people to talk, text, email,
navigate through the internet, and make videoconferences all at the same time,
so we can say that cell phones created better communication between people.
In addition to easy communication, cell phones are multitasking. They have
many options to make our lives easier. We don’t have to carry maps, GPS,
cameras, calculators, radios, or notebooks because we have it all in our cell
phones. Also, people can watch tv, and movies, play video games, and video
chat with friends or family with only a small device.
Unfortunately, one negative effect is the cost of it. The newest smartphones are
expensive and their lifetime is short. A lot of people feel the need to buy the last
model because they have generated a huge dependency on those devices. A
lot of people put themself in debt just for buying new phones, pay for a service,
or buy other apps and extra programs. In addition, it is proven that cell phones
create addiction or dependency. Cell phones can make people addicted
because they feel the need to have it with them all the time, for example, people
feel desperate when they can’t find their phones or their battery died. This also
causes bad behavior because they get mad at other people and can treat them
badly.
In conclusion, cell phones make our lives easier by facilitating communication
and having multitasking options, but the negative effects are the cost and the
dependency a person can have. People should be more responsible with their
devices so they can enjoy the positive effect of this new technology.
