TEXT 8 : THE COCONUT TREE

Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm. The coconut palm

can be seen in most tropical places. The ripe coconut has a fibrous

husk, which has numerous air spaces. The air spaces enable it to float.

The husk helps the fruit to float and does not allow water or any liquid to go in.

The coconut palms can usually be found on small islands and low shores.

They make borders to the tropical seas.

The coconut palm grows to a height of 20 to 30 meters with a smooth

stem.The kernel of the coconut contains plenty of oil called coconut oil. The oil

is used for cooking as well as for making soaps and candles. It can produce up

to 75 to 200 nuts each year.

Akmal is a member of the Boy Scouts. He joined the scouts camping trip to Hutan
Lipur Gunung Lambak. All the members of the club started their journey by bicycle at seven

TOPIC : THE MISTAKEN GROCERY LIST

One morning, Mr Liew saw a list of grocery items on the refrigerator door. He

thought that he would get the things for his wife after work that day.

When he came back home that evening, he called out to his wife, “I’ve done

your shopping for you, dear. These are the things on your grocery list,” he said as he took

out the things from the bags.

“A loaf of bread, two bars of chocolate, a packet of sugar, two tubes of toothpaste, four tins

of sardines, a bottle of chilli sauce and a tray of eggs.”

Mrs Liew laughed and said, “Oh dear, these were last week’s grocery items! I must

have forgotten to throw it away. Now we have more than enough.”
