Course Description This course is designed to provide students with basic knowledge of phonetics and English phonology. English phonetics deals
with description of phonetics features for segmental phonemes (i.e., consonants and vowels) and supra-segmental phonemes
(i.e., stress, intonation, and juncture). It also deals with knowledge and practical skills of reading and writing phonetic transcription.
English phonology primarily explains how phonetic representation is derived from phonemic representation by means of
phonological rules. The instructional activities cover lecture, discussion, practice producing phonological transcriptions.

Final grades are determined by average score of the tests, the fulfillment of minimum attendance and the completion of assignments.
