2. Give a description (or situation) of teaching using inductive and deductive approach in
English language teaching!

Inductive Approach: Rules learners discover for themselves (student-centered) how to use
and when to use some structures than rules they have been presented with. This makes the
rules more meaningful, memorable, and acquired, Students participate in the learning process
more actively, rather than being simply passive listeners: therefore students are more
attentive and more motivated, Students work things out for themselves and it prepares them
for greater self-reliance and autonomy.

Deductive Approach: It gets straight to the point, and so can be time-saving. Many rules
especially rules of form can be simply and quickly explained and allow more time for
practice and application, it is very suitable for the intelligence and maturity of many adult
students, as well as acknowledges the role of cognitive processes in language acquisition, it
gives an opportunity for the teacher to deal with language points as they come up, rather than
having to prepare some materials in advance.

3. Mention 5 methods you know of performing structural approach and give your reasons!

5 methods used in the structural approach are the grammar-translation method, the direct
method, the Cognitive approach, Silent Way, and the oral approach. The reason is that the
structural approach values language learning as behavioral learning of habits and these
methods use structural levels of language as the basis of their learning method.

4. Mention 5 methods you know performing communicative approach and give your reasons!

5 methods used in the Communicative Approach are Audio-Lingual Method, The Silent
Way, Community Language Learning, Suggestopedia, and The Natural Approach because
those methods are more students-centered, or in other words is that it is designed specifically
to fulfill student’s needs, interests, and characteristics along with the adaptation or
localization if needed, and communicative language instruction approaches aim to educate
students to be confident communicators.

5. What is Genre based Approach (GBA) in language teaching? Does it belong to structural
approach or communicative approach? Give your reasons!

Genre Based Approach (GBA) also known as text-based learning approach where the learners
will learn with the framework of instruction based on a certain genre, and in my opinion, it is
part of the structural approach because GBA follows structural levels of language.
