Eye for an eye basis for punishment

By: Myca S. Kasilag
Grade 11- STEM
Justice must be fair and right, that in every offences and crime committed punishment
must occur. The moral foundation of punishment is a problematic issue which has
prompted several competing views. A biblical perspective is anchored in the principle of
retribution: punishment is deserved in proportion to the seriousness of an offence. Thus,
an eye for an eye basis for punishment must be implemented.
The fundamental aim of an eye for an eye basis for punishment is not just to inflict
suffering on offenders but to reassert the existence of the moral order that governs human
life. That moral order emphasizes the connections between justice, right relationships and
seeking after community well-being. For this reason, punishment should normally aim
both at making reparation to victims and at restoring offenders into the community. Taken
together these priorities highlight shortcomings in our criminal justice system and suggest
directions for reform
.“An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life” is located in the sections of the
Bible that instruct judges how to punish criminals. It is strictly an instruction for courts of
law, not for personal revenge. In fact, the Bible instructs people not to take revenge. When
we feel that someone has treated us unjustly and we cannot resolve the issue with them
directly, we are instructed to turn to courts of law, not to take justice into our own hands.
Thus this punishment aims to deterrence, that explains, if crime is not punished, there is
likely to be rampant crime, for crime will pay. Restitution, where, Criminals should
compensate their victims for the harm they caused. Reformation, where, punishments
should guide criminals to become better people by getting them to feel remorse for what
they did wrong so they won’t want to do it again.
An eye for an eye basis for punishment is intended to have an educative effect, either on
the public or on the offender. This is not an act of vengeance but an act of fairness. This
principle enlighten people to think carefully their actions and it's consequences. Therefore
an eye for an eye basis for punishment must prevail.

Mandatory Drug Testing
By: Myca S. Kasilag
Grade 11- STEM

The Government of the Philippines continues to wage an ongoing struggle against drug
abuse and drug trafficking. Addressing the said struggle, the implementation of a
mandatory drug testing was made. But instead of addressing it, the occurrence of other
conflicts was arise, that’s why mandatory drug testing for me it must be vanished.
Forcing the youth to submit to drug testing is an infringement of his/her rights against self
incrimination. It is an invasive attack. Now, why would we stick with this method when
there are other methods of deterrence that are less invasive? Examples of these are
encouraging extra-curricular activities, drug education, and fostering better parental
relations. Education is the ultimate deterrent, not random testing. The violation of privacy
and loss of dignity is evident here, even if the government guarantees the confidentiality
of drug test results. Furthermore, the implementation of
There is no concrete evidence that randomly drug testing students deters drug use nor
any convincing systematic studies examining the effectiveness of drug testing. Doing this
does not address the reasons why students turn to drugs in the first place. Forced testing
may only encourage rebellion and trigger oppositional behavior by motivating some drug-
involved adolescents to switch to harder drugs and taking the chance to beat the system.
Drug testing fails to reach students’ key attitudes and beliefs. Additionally, testing
randomly to student who - clearly - do not do drugs is such a waste of resources. It would
require a great deal of funding, which would not be helpful to school districts who are
already struggling with budget. The cost for drug testing is way too high for how ineffective
it is and the poor condition our economy is in. instead of funding a budget for impractical
mandatory drug testing among secondary students, we should spend our scarce
resources educating students through comprehensive, interactive and honest drug
education with identification of, and assistance for, students whose lives are disrupted by
substance use.
In conclusion, there are a large number of unintended consequences to drug testing but
no study has taken this into account in weighing the harms and benefits of random drug
testing. Given the lack of scientific data supporting the effectiveness of drug testing, this
just emphasized that recommended and mandatory drug testing must not be
implemented.

Free distribution of condoms
By: Myca S. Kasilag
Grade 11 - STEM
The topic sex is a very controversial matter especially among teenagers. Teenagers are
at a point in their lives where hormones are at a high and they feel the need to indulge in
sexual activities. Therefore it is important that teenagers understand the importance of
safe sex and the consequences of unprotected sex. That is why, I agreed to the free
distribution of condoms in either schools, community and health center.
The issue regarding the free distribution of condoms is one of the best tactic to prevent
most of the concerned issues in the society, which are the early pregnancy and STDs.
In this case, giving of condoms would be a great help to decrease such problems.
Practically speaking, we cannot deny the fact that most of the students nowadays are
already engaged on sexual activities, that's why giving of condoms is the best action to
lessen and prevent teenage pregnancies and the spreading of incurable diseases. Giving
of condoms does not mean that the schools are tolerating students to have sex with their
partners. It is just that thee school together with the government units want to prevent
teenagers who are getting pregnant at the very young age and to prevent catching
sexually transmitted diseases.
Furthermore, the data from several studies revealed that Condoms effectively reduce STI
transmission. Findings of a meta-analysis of well-designed studies demonstrate that
consistent condom use reduces the risk of HIV transmission by approximately 80% . The
effectiveness of condoms for prevention of nonviral STIs, especially gonorrhea and
chlamydia, is well-documented. A multisite prospective study found no incident infections
with consistent and correct condom use. Therefore, significant evidence demonstrates
the importance of consistent and correct condom use in the prevention of STIs,
particularly in high-risk populations such as adolescents and young adults. In addition to
preventing STIs, condoms can significantly reduce the rate of unplanned pregnancy. Over
the last few decades, many schools in the United States have developed reproductive
health programs in which condom availability is an integral part. As of 1996, 2.2% of U.S.
schools reported having a condom availability program; 98% of these programs included
an educational component . The few studies that examined the effect of condom
availability programs on rates of STIs or condom use during sexual activity showed
promising results. Youth with access to condoms at school were more likely to use
condoms at their last sexual intercourse. Gonorrhea and chlamydia rates declined
significantly among adolescent males in schools with a condom availability program,
whereas rates of STIs increased among those in schools without such a program [19]. In
another study of school-based condom provision, although the overall rate of condom use
decreased compared with a national sample, it was associated with an increase in oral
contraceptive use, keeping the overall use of contraception unchanged [17]. Critics of
school condom availability programs have argued that the increased availability of
condoms will lead to an increase in sexual activity, but, to date, no studies have shown
such an increase. Moreover, several studies suggest that condom availability programs
may be associated with a decrease in recent sexual activity or delayed onset of sexual
activity.
If we fail to prevent teenage pregnancies and incurable disease, most of the teenagers
will be affected. The country will also suffer from over population and the risk of poverty
will occur. In conclusion, it is a great importance that the government and school support
the teenagers on their problems by providing free condoms to the students and establish
organizational support for condom distribution. In this way we can minimize the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases and can prevent early pregnancies.

Fast Food: Feeding or Killing?
By: Myca S. Kasilag
Grade 11- STEM
"When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot
fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied" Thus, giving
importance to a healthy lifestyle is a must. Any food that requires enhancing by the use
of chemical substances should in no way be considered a food. Therefore, eating fast
food does not help in prolonging our lives, but slowly killing ourselves.
Fast food has mostly empty calories and no nutritional value, leaving the body hungry for
vitamins, minerals and other key nutrients necessary for a growing child . On top of that,
fast food is loaded with more fat, sugar and sodium than children need, and eating this
kind of unhealthy food can have negative health consequences over time, such as obesity,
diabetes, heart disease, and other health issues.
Furthermore, the study revealed that fast and processed foods can harm your physical
health, leading to diabetes and obesity, as well as premature cardiac death, cancer,
strokes, and more. But these foods are also altering your brain and your mental health –
fueling depression, mental illness, and other issues. According to a study published in the
Public Health Journal, people who eat fast foods are 51% more likely to develop
depression compared to those who eat little or no fast food. .Thus, another study
published in the Journal of Adolescence Health found that eating just one serving of
French fries per week during adolescence increased women’s breast cancer risk later in
life by 27%., in addition, another study published in Circulation found that eating fast food
one time per week increased the risk of dying from coronary heart disease by 20% , a
risk that grew to 50% for people eating fast food two or three times per week. Other
documented impacts from these foods include: Brain fog Mood swings Anxiety Violence
and aggression. And for kids who eat fast food and processed foods, the situation may
be even worse.
Health is wealth, thus Getting educated about the negative consequences of consuming
junk foods can help you talk about the fast food health risks with other people in your life.
And you can set an example by saying no to fast food and saying yes to healthy
alternatives. Let's start promoting healthy lifestyle, rather than promoting unhealthy food
most especially fast food. It is not too late to stop slowly killing ourselves, just say no to
fast food.

Who makes a better leader: Someone who is loved or Someone who is feared.
By: Myca S. Kasilag
Grade 11 - STEM
The three factors of love are intimacy, passion, and commitment, that establish a strong
positive correlation to leadership because Love is where leadership begins. Therefore
The true essence of being a leader is that, you as a leader knows how to love and be love
by the people.
Leadership without love, is merely a manipulation not a leadership. If love is the center of
all the things we do, its outcomes will always be in a positive results. That's why for me,
it is better for a leader to be love rather than to be fear. This is because the first thing the
leader need to learn is love, with the presence of love leadership will result to harmonious
relationship between the leader and its constituents.
It is important for a leader to be loved, respected, and admired. This enables a mutual
relationship between the people and their leader, as they understand that their opinions
are valid and significant to their ruler. People who are satisfied in the regimen they live
under are more likely to behave according to societal limitations and be productive and
positive towards their society. This alone allows a country to be much more successful
and prosperous. .A leader who is feared, on the other hand, does not have a real
relationship with the people. They only obey the rules and laws established out of fear,
not because they believe they are just. People can then feel that they are not a part of
the country and its leadership, because they are not included, have no voice, and cannot
directly participate in it. This leads to more rebellion, be it of an outright or clandestine
nature. .Clearly, a leader who is feared does not inspire the people to be better or happier,
but merely oppresses them and condemns his own nation. A leader who manages to
obtain the people’s love and approval, and use this to further benefit his country and
society as a whole, on the other hand, creates a much more affluent nation. . This has
been proven throughout history, as the best rulers are usually greatly loved, admired and
supported by their people, who are happy and motivated under their leaders’ rule.
Leadership is about failing in love with the people you serve and the people falling in love
with you. Building a harmonious relationship between the leaders and its constituents was
one of the evidence of being such a great leader that in some way, you as a leader will
remain in people’s heart no matter what. This will never vanished in peoples memories
about your deeds and accomplishments for being a loveable leader.

Technology: A friend or a foe
By: Myca S. Kasilag
Grade 11 - STEM

Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life, technology perhaps is the greatest of
God's gift, it is the product of human intelligence that connect us, unite people and makes
the world easy to live on. It is the science of today and the technology of tomorrow, thus
there is no such reason that technology will serve as our enemy, but a friend.
Technology comes from necessity, therefore technology is made to fill the absence in
the need of humanity. The occurrence of technology helps people in different aspects of
life, such in medical purposes, development, work, educational aspects and other
matters. It has its greater role in making the world a better home to live on and with the
use of technology impossible can be possible and fantasy can be a reality.
In addition, several studies revealed that the evolution of technology is beneficial to
humans for several reasons. At the medical level technology can help treat more sick
people and consequently save many lives and combat very harmful viruses and bacteria.
The invention of the computer was a very important point. Communication is thus
enhance, and companies can communicate more easily with foreign countries. Research
is also simplified. For companies, progress in implementing strategic technology trends
is helping them save time and therefore, money. Exchanges are faster especially with the
time internet. Sales and purchases are now facilitated and possible worldwide. This
allows businesses to buy raw materials with discounts or at reduced prices. Similarly,
global tourism has grown. Technology has also increased in productivity of almost every
industry in the world. Thanks to technology, we can even pay with bitcoins instead of
using banks. The digital coin has been such a game changing factor, that may realized
that this is the right time to open a bitcoin demo account. When observed more closely,
new things are discovered everyday. Let's take for instance when radio waves where
discovered, radio broadcasts followed suit almost immediately. The same applies to the
television and electricity. If no one have discovered that electricity could be generated,
then the entertainment industry wouldn't be at it's current stage of development.
Technology improves daily lives; allowing to move physical storage units to virtual storage
banks and more. Scientists of the time are also able to send astronauts to the moon.
Thanks to technology. In the modern industrial world, machines carry out most of the
agricultural and industrial work and as a result, workers produce much more goods than
a century ago and work less. They have more time to exercise and work in safer
environments.
The ultimate promise of technology is to make humanity the master of it's own world.
Thus, the occurrence of technology brings so much improvement and development that
in all aspects of life technology was centralized. Technology can become the wings that
will allow humanity fly farther and faster than before, if we will allow it. So there is no
reason to hate technology, instead be thankful that human intelligence brings such a
wonderful creation.
