Dear Parents,

You are receiving this letter because your son or daughter has been invited to participate in this
year’s AASCA HS Leadership Conference. Below you will find important information regarding the
event, as well as important trip information. Please review carefully and return the confirmation
/authorization slip to the High School or ECA office by ​Tuesday, Sept. 24th.

Mazapan School is honored and excited to host the 2019-2020 High School Leadership and Service
Experience in La Ceiba, Honduras, October 9-13, 2019. The theme of this year’s leadership
conference will be “Start Small... Finish BIG!”

The conference will begin on Wednesday, October 9th at 5:00 PM and all activities will officially end on
Saturday afternoon. Departure will be on Sunday, October 13.

PHILOSOPHY ​The leadership conference should be a gathering of top students from each participating
AASCA School. The leaders of the National Honor Society, Student Government, and Class Officers
and sports teams should be among those attending. The approach which has been the most successful
has been one in which, given the very talented young people assembled, we take advantage of the
group dynamics.

GOALS ​1. To understand the nature of groups 2. To understand the importance of

communication 3. To understand the qualities of leadership in order to better use them in
school and community settings. 4. To learn new problem solving and decision making skills.
5. To make new friends with students from similar schools in order to provide the foundation
of a peer network. 6. To focus on service as a leadership objective. 7. To have a rewarding
and fun experience

Conference Schedule ​More details will be shared as the event date approaches. The event will focus
upon leadership development and include activities that promote team building, collaboration, inspiration
from accomplished leaders, service, and planning for the execution of projects to be carried out in each
school.

mentioned above is preliminary, that it could be modified according to the number of participants 
and that ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY DEPOSITED INTO THE EVENT ACCOUNT IS 
NON-REFUNDABLE. I am also aware that my child has to travel with the group and participate 
in all group activities throughout the event, as well as adhere to the School’s Student Manual at
