I. Objective
 Define Reality and Fantasy based on the poem heard
 Distinguish Reality from Fantasy based on the poem read
 Give examples of sentences using Reality and Fantasy
 Write 2 or more sentences about Reality and Fantasy
Value: love for life and family

II. Subject Matter


The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly

Materials: Worksheets, Visual Aids (pictures, Illustrations), book
Reference: English You and Me pp. 171-175

III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities
 Tell the Students to list down at least 5 names of their favorite cartoon
characters and 5 names of their Favorite Artist in movies/television
 Show pictures that signifies Reality and Fantasy

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Ask: -Do you have a favorite cartoon characters? Who are they?
-Do you have a Favorite Movie/Television Artist? Who are they?
-Do you believe in fairies?

Swallow – eat

1. Presentation
A. Ask the students if they have already seen an old woman who swallowed a fly.
B. Present this poem to the class. Tell them that this poem will tell them what happened to
the old woman who swallowed the fly. Tell the pupils to listen as you read the poem.

The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly


There was an old woman who swallowed a fly.
Oh! My! Swallowed a fly?
Poor old woman, I think she’ll die
There was an old woman who swallowed a spider.
Right down inside her, she swallowed a spider.

She swallowed a spider to catch the fly


Oh, my! Swallowed a fly!
Poor old woman, I think she’ll die
There was an old woman who swallowed a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly


Oh, my! Swallowed a fly!
Poor old woman, I think she’ll die.
There was an old woman who swallowed a cat.

Fancy that! Swallowed a cat!


She swallowed the cat to catch the bird.

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider.


She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
There was an old woman who swallowed a horse.
She died of course.
A. Have the pupils answer the questions.

B.Tell the students that your topic for today is about reality and fantasy.
C. Discuss to the students what is reality and fantasy.
D. Let the students distinguish reality and fantasy by presenting another poem and have
them answer some questions and present a chart which separates the two ideas.

She had ten children and she didn’t know what to do
All day long her children stayed outside to play.
At night time they all packed together and called it a day

Read each sentence. Write fantasy if the sentence tells about a make believe event;
and Reality if it tells a real situation.
