Rape: Is the Victim to Blame?

Cases of rape, sexual harassment, and catcalling have been spreading all over the internet and
on the news. From 30-year-olds to teenagers, from kids to newborn babies. This issue isn’t even
new. It has been there ever since time immemorial and it is still here now. But is catcalling,
sexual harassment, and rape a victim’s fault? Is the victim really the person to blame?
Most people believe that whatever the person’s clothes are, whomever they are with, or how they
act, if you touch them without their consent, it’s already considered harassment or rape. They
say that rape is happening because of the small minded people, the rapists and perverts, that
exist in this world. People experience being catcalled even if they wear long sleeves and pants,
even in their uniforms.
But some people still believe that it is the victim’s fault. They say that they should not wear
revealing clothes or something that shows too much skin. Some grip to the belief that if it isn’t
for the people who show their body, their skin, they wouldn’t have been catcalled or harassed, or
even raped. They say that people would be catcalled less if they’ll see less of what they wanted to
see. Some still believe that it’s really in the person’s way of dressing, how they act, and how they
flaunt themselves.
But is it really like that? Do we really need to blame the victim’s clothes? How they act?
Problems always need to be solved from its root cause. And what is the root cause of harassment
and rape? The rapist itself, not the victim.
There are news about a female dog being gang raped, a 9-month old baby, and also a 4-month
old baby was raped too. Now how can you say that harassment and rape is based on how a
person dresses and acts? A dog can’t act on its own. And not because it’s just a dog, you can do
anything you want with it. A dog, may be an animal, but is still a living organism. It still breathes
and lives to see the world. A newborn baby, doesn’t dress revealing clothes. They can’t be raped
based on how they act, cause a baby doesn’t even know how to act yet. And these examples are
just a few.
Never blame a rape victim because of their clothes. Never blame a rape victim of how they act.
Never blame a rape victim for being raped.
Blame the rapist for being a pervert. Blame the rapist for not keeping his hands to himself.
Blame the rapist for being so thirsty. Blame the rapist for committing rape.
Blame the rapist all you want because they deserve it. But never blame a victim that they were
raped. It wasn’t their fault and it will never be their fault.
In the famous rising cases that include catcalling, sexual harassment, and rape, is the victim
really to blame? No. Never.
