Questions and Problems

1. When is the delta connection of resistors equivalent to the wye connected resistors?
 When the total resistance between any two terminals is the same.

2. What are the practical applications of the technique delta-wye transformation? Discuss the
different practical applications.
 Delta to Wye transformation is useful for the simplification of circuits since some resistor
networks cannot be simplified using the usual series and parallel combinations. Also, it is
useful for the calculation of line current and phase current in a 3-phase electrical circuit.
Lastly, it is useful in making connections between 3 phase power supply and machineries.

Interpretation

 This experiment was about the delta-wye and wye-delta transformation. This is especially
useful when presented with a difficult circuit and if the circuit is undermined whether it
is parallel or series. There are times that the total resistance must be equal between each
pair of terminals before and after the transformation. For the delta measured, the group
was given a value of 68 ohms for R1 all the way to R3 and 97 ohms for the RL. Going straight
to Tina Pro software, a circuit diagram was illustrated which was based on the given
diagram given beforehand and placed the corresponding values into it to get the I1, I2, Va,
Vb, and Vc which were actually the values for the delta and wye measured respectively.
 To check upon the data gathered and verify that it is legitimate, the group needed its data
to be equal to the calculated values which in fact were.

Conclusion

 The objectives from this experiment must have been met to truly say that the experiment was a
success and that the students learned something from it.
 The first objective was to identify the delta and wye connection of resistances. From what I have
learned, the easiest way to spot a wye connection is to find a connection in the circuit that forms
a letter Y, hence the name wye. A delta connection resembles more of a T. This is verified by
means of their response between each other and that through configuration, the results show
that they have the same values in terms of their current and voltages; which was what the second
objective was.
 Lastly, the group learned to transform delta to wye and vice versa through their lecture classes.
By using the formula for the delta and wye resistors, the conversion was obtained. And so, to be
able to say that the experiment was a success, the group used a software called TinaPro. In the
program, the group simulated the given data wherein it also served as the reference for the
calculated data gathered. The data came out as correct because the values were the same as
what we had previously gotten.
