THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Today’s world innovation produces different technologies that definitely

made our lives easier. Technology is widely used by people to do certain tasks such as

using these devices as a program for education. Most individuals have cellphones to

communicate through different social media platforms, especially teenagers that have

certain tasks to do such as assignments, projects, and also research. Students and

teachers will have a better platform of learning. It increases their flexibility in discovering

new techniques and learning styles in terms of studying. In recent years, devices used

in learning and it offers a large scale of productivity in students’ skillfulness. This allow

students to coop with time management as it provides less time consuming works than

manual written quizzes and reports, also to focus more on environment.

This phenomena influences the school to promote the use of technology for a better

learning curve for the educators. This increases the students’ interest in learning

because they encounter a lot of learning materials that can be made by using digital

programs, that helps them propagate their knowledge ability. Teachers experience less

hassle works in providing the students such activities. They have used a better teaching

platform the result is the students can visualize and understand more of the topic. Less

time consuming and materials in doing manual presentation and hand written quizzes.

This gives the teachers and school administrators an easier way to handle the students

learning. Thus gives more productivity of works to made.

In October 2018, Aralinks program was introduced to the students in San Diego

Parochial School. The Aralinks program used tablets that can log in the students’

account that had access to their different subject field. The tablets was not also used for

quizzes but also to keep track of your progress through different subject matters.

Significance of Study

Nowadays, technology is widely used among schools. It can improve teaching

strategies in many ways. Thus, it can have a lot of help in terms of studying. The results

of this study benefited the following sectors:

Students – Students will know their own responsibility in using ARALinks

program. Using this program can have them a lot of benefits that can surely help them

to excel more in terms of academics.

Teachers – Teachers may use teaching strategies that will surely help their

students. There will be less hassle in giving school activities since ARALinks is a

technology based educational program.

School Administrators – This study can assist school administrators by

improving the school curriculum by being practical and having proper evaluation of the

school’s subject matter. It can help them determine the available methods in enhancing

the student’s learning. And can also help them to educate the teachers to encourage

the use of technology as a way of enhancing the student’s abilities through advanced

visualization and presentation.

Parents – Parents may observe difficulties because of additional expenses

in obtaining their childs’ technological education needs. Thus, they can also know the

progress of their childs’ learning capacities.

Phoenix Company – Since Phoenix company already have their

educational partnership within San Diego Parochial School, they can easily access

available suggestions of the students and teachers to made further improvements or

upgrades to ARALinks program.

Other schools – Other schools can easily adapt the way of teaching of

San Diego Parochial School such as using ARALinks program. They will tend to know

the advantages of this program that can push them through by accessing and installing

ARALinks within their school vicinity.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the achievements among San Diego Parochial

School teachers and students using ARALinks program as teaching strategy.

The study intend to answer the following questions:

1. What are the available programs of aralinks?

2. What are the advantages and disadvantage of Aralinks program in teaching and

learning process?

3. How does Aralinks program helps the teachers on their teaching strategy?

4. What are the difficulties encountered by teachers in using the Aralinks program?
Scope and Limitation

Review of Related Literature, Researches and Studies

Technology not only is just the new cool new thing (McNeely,2019) it indeed

modernize the field of education in a different way. It opens new doors for the educators

to expand their teaching strategies. It enhances the students’ learning to be enjoyable

but still educational as possible. Technology is quickly taking over schools to improve

the student’s interest in studying. But could it be that technology only gives positive

outcomes? Or it also has its disadvantages? How could it help the educators in

improving the student’s knowledge? And what are the possible challenges that the

educators can encounter in using technology?

As stated by ARALinks 2018, There are some available programs from

Aralinks such as Aralinks playground where the interests of students, teachers, and

even school administrators were used through technology in schools nationwide. The

Aralinks team carefully crafted, and curated questions, and games geared towards

linking a competition with technology. And there are other programs like Technological,

HUB and NGS, these will help you learn much better. On February 14 to 16, the

National Aralinks Quest 2018 is to be held simultaneously at the Phoenix Building in

Quezon City, Manila, and at Colegio de Inmaculada Concepcion. Aralinks Quest is

expected to be joined by 355 Primary, Intermediate, and High School students from 115

participating schools from all over the Philippines.

Technology is efficient among teachers and students, which is the internet. It

does give visual styles so the students can learn at ease and more composed.
Furthermore, technology exposes the learners a various ways of how they can gain

information. It implements for teacher an innovative teachings techniques. Almekhlafi,

A.G. (2006a) in his study he investigated the effects of Computer Assisted Language

Learning (CALL) in students’ improvement in prep-elementary for learning. Base from

the result of the study the effects of using CALL on learning English as a foreign

language (EFL). It shows the evidence of the positive attitude was experienced in using

CALL, additionally it perceived utility for helping them learn EFL. The literature in both

theory and practice, aids the knowledge that students learning in the community of

learners managing the technology as a tool of learning, are capable on building prior

knowledge, handle achievement and grow to their fullest capacity and potential. It

seems that construction-absorbing environment allows the students to feel success with

the integration of technology. Nevertheless, researchers restraints us to identify that the

technology alone cannot bring about all the needed changes in today’s classroom.

Bhaskar (2013) stated that using digital technology in studying such as

ARALinks program helps a teacher improve every students’ learning outcomes. Thus, it

also provides a lot of free tools used for teachers to set homework, send documents,

create calendars, and evaluate students’ assessments. The said program helps the

teacher in dividing tasks such as quizzes, seat works, projects, and group discussions

that is highly recommended for it is less hassle for every students and teachers.

As stated by the students and teachers of San Diego Parochial School,

ARALinks program can still have a lot of disadvantages. Gathering information can be a

great thing. Inevitable cheating can become a real problem in a test taking society. They
admit that using gadgets have made cheating easier. Thus, it can also serve as a

distraction that will cause them to lose interest in studying.

It is the teacher’s responsibility to guide each student to use digital technology

according to LiveTiles (2016). According to International Society for Technology in

Education (ISTE) there are strategies to administer technology in its most effective

ways. Teachers are capable to identify their struggling students and receive help before

the grades are about to drop with the help of formative assessment. Every teachers can

use Aralinks program to have brainstorming sessions in class. By doing this, students

are free to express their thoughts and to get along with their strengths and weaknesses.

Kotrlik & Redmann (2005) examined the extent of technology integration in

instruction by adult basic education teachers. Technology uses technology as the early

stage of technology integration thus a more effective in the area of exploration. The

study reveals that teachers feel some anxiety in technology integration and perceived

that they are more efficient in using technology regardless if they have integrated

technology, and they are encountering barriers. The availability of ICT tools, including

computers with Internet in the classroom.

There are various researches that have a number of barriers which delay the

integration of technology. Out of these include ; Earle, 2002; Flores, 2002, Brinkerhof,

2006 and Almekhlafi & Almeqdadi, 2010. In the study by Robert & Ferries (1994) cited

by Almekhlafi & Almeqdadi, (2010), it was stated that barriers to technology integration

comprised absence of knowledge of the available technological resources, time

assurance, the risk associated with the use of technology and also the view of
technology as an ever changing thing. Based on the study of Earle (2002), in her study

she classified the factors of the effect of technology integration in the classroom into

two. These factors are defined as restraining force to the teachers. The extrinsic factors

are identified as access, available resources, support, time, and training of teachers

while the restraining factors that are intrinsic are identified as teachers’ attitudes, beliefs,

practices, and resistance.

Flores (2002), in his study it was classified that in their attempt for the

technology integration they faced many obstacle. In addition to administrative support

and time scheduling for the use of technology, equity is another important issue. The

introduction of technology is particularly hard when there are few resources. This is

supported by Almekhlafi & Almeqdadi, (2010) where he cited Brinkerhof (2006) who

grouped the restraining into four (4) main categories: administrative and institutional

resources and support, attitudinal or personality factors, and experience and training.

These statements provided us the different perspectives of using technology

as a medium for studying. ARALinks program showed us of what could be the positive

outcomes would technology provide. It gave a lot of assistance to the educators for

them to give better performance for their students. Aside from that it also gave us the

difficulties that might an educator face. In today’s digital age, no school should be left

behind. ARALinks program enables schools to develop a digital learning culture that

promotes rich, relevant, motivating, and memorable learning experiences.
