Introduction

A polarizer or polariser is an optical filter that lets light waves of a

specific polarization pass and blocks light waves of other polarizations. It can convert a beam
of light of undefined or mixed polarization into a beam of well-defined polarization, that
is polarized light. The common types of polarizers are linear polarizers and circular
polarizers. Polarizers are used in many optical techniques and instruments, and polarizing
filters find applications in photography and liquid crystal display technology. Polarizers can
also be made for other types of electromagnetic waves besides light, such as radio
waves, microwaves, and X-rays.Polarized glass are the glass that coated with a special
chemical film that helps reduce glare.Glare is caused when light from the sun is reflected off
water or a solid surface.By neutralizing glare, polarized lenses helps us see objects more
clearly, and also help reduce the harmful effects of UV light.Polarized glass contain a special
filter that blocks this type of intense reflected light ,reducing glare.Though polarizaed glass
improve comfort and visibility ,you will encounter some instances when this glass may not be
advisable. One example is downhill skiing, where you don’t want to block light reflecting off
icy patches because this alerts skiers to hazards they are approaching. In addition, polarized
lenses may reduce the visibility of images produced by liquid crystal displays (LCDs) or
light-emitting diode displays (LEDs) found on the dashboards of some cars on in other places
such as the digital screens on automatic teller machines and self-services gas pumps. The
glare of the sun on the sea (and other surface) is highly polarized.Indeed, the glare can be
almost completely horizontally polarized, depending on the height of the sun.In addition, all
reflections from objects above water are partially polarized. With polarized sunglasses the sea
appears more transparent.
Conclusion

In conclusion, polarized glass neutralize horizontal reflection of light by screening it

through vertically oriented polarizing filters embedded in or applied onto the glass lens.Only
the part of the light wave that is aligned with the microscopic openings (vertical) in the filter
can pass through;the reflected light that is horizontally oriented will be blocked , and the
glare will be muted significantly. These vertically oriented “polarizers” act almost like a high-
tech “venetian blind”,and the filter out the reflected light. So,polarized glass has its own
advantage and disadvantage based on the how it is used in our daily live.We have to know
how this polarized glass works and what situation that suitable before we were using it
because it is very different with other glasses.
