Lesson Plan

Title: Respecting and Embracing Diversity (Introducing Me)

Concept/ Topic to Teach: Students will be taught about the different traditions and hobbies of

their classmates that has a different cultural background than their own.

Grade & Class: Grade 10 Geometry

General Goals:

1. To build a safe and friendly environment for the students.

2. To differentiate or recognize each student’s cultures.

3. To teach students the different kinds of culture all around the world.

4. To create a collage using different pictures and cut them in different shapes.

Objective: Each student will introduce themselves to the class through illustrating a piece of art

that relates to them and their culture. Students will reflect on what they learn about the different

cultural background of their peers.

Required Materials:

 Printer paper

 Colored paper

 Magazines – for some pictures

 Scissors

 Glue

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): The teacher will make a short introduction welcoming her students

into the class. A lecture from me and defining few words that relates to the topic.

Step-By-Step Procedures:

1. Introduction by presenting myself (the teacher).

2. Defining or asking what Culture is.

3. Asking the students if they know anything about their culture or their family traditions.

(Where they’re originated from)

4. Show a video of a few cultures and traditions from all around the world, including mine.

5. Show an example of a collage that I made myself relating to my cultural background.

6. Use this as an example in class and present it.

7. I will explain to the student how their work and participation is going to be graded.

8. Teacher will give time to students to brainstorm, list down ideas, and do a research about

their culture then, put the students into pairs to learn about one another.

9. Teacher will then give out materials for the collage, and students will make their collage.

10. After, each pair of students will present their partners work in front of the class to tell

them what they learn about each other’s cultural background.

Independent Practice:

 Students will brainstorm about the things they remember or know of about their culture.

 Students will do a research about their culture if, they do not have enough knowledge

about their cultural background.

 Students will create their own collage. However, students will be working with a partner

and learn about that person’s background.

Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):

 After every pair of students is done presenting will be the cue of the end of the subject

matter.

 Teacher will ask them to reflect on what they’ve learn about one another.

Assessment Based on Objectives:

1. Class discussion (25 pts.) – engaging when teacher is doing her lecture.

2. Student’s participation (25 pts.) – participating in class discussion and being able to

present their work in class.

3. Hands-on experiment (25 pts.) – this is the collage that the students have to make.

4. Cooperative Learning activities (25 pts.) – seeing how well each student work with each

other while creating their collage up to reflecting on what they’ve learned.

Possible Connections to Other Subjects:

 Connecting this lesson with other disciplinary rules in the classroom.

- Meaning: Learning about the different cultural background of one another, it is very

important to give respect on other people’s beliefs/ culture. Just like in class,

everyone should give respect to one another.
