Road Safety

Everyday many people involved in road accident in which some peoples are
killed and many peoples are injured, so it is important for us to learn about
how to use the roads properly and safely.
BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) nations contribute to 20% of
the world’s accident and India on top in the list. In India 2016, our roads saw
480652 accidents and 494624 injuries and 150785 persons killing. On average
there are 1317 road accidents and 413 fatalities everyday. And the no. of road
accidents increasing consistently.
Today all the roads are very busy so we should be very careful about our safety
and it is not just about the person who used the roads for traveling but it’s also
about her/his family because his family members are waiting for him, so he
should be very careful about the road safety and he must follow all the traffic
or roads rules for traveling.
Road safety is important for all road users. Every year more than one million
people are injured in road accidents. In recent years the numbers of vehicle on
roads has increased, so this makes road safety even more important. Youth the
largest casualty of road crashers in India. In 2016, 60% of the people who lost
their lives in the road accident were in the age group of 18-35.

There are some major points that we should know for road safety-
 All those passengers who used cars always wear seat belts when you are
driving and those who used two wheeler always wear your helmet
because all these small things could save your life
 Never drive under the road influence of alcohol or narcotics because it is
completely illegal and it could lead to a serious accident and also avoid
driving when you are sleepy and tired.
 Stick within speed limits and also follow the rules and always maintain
your lane while driving and do not skip red lights even if you can’t see
any oncoming traffic. And always drive slow.
 Don’t use mobile phones when your are driving and also don’t pick’s any
call while you are driving.
 Also road accidents are a result of faulty road design, poor road quality,
pits on roads, and no lights on roads, etc. So we should be careful while
driving.
 And road safety is not for while you are driving it’s also important when
you are walking on roads, so always follow the rules when you are
walking or roads,
 Make your car safer is an important component of save your life on the
roads. Many cars in India has low quality and they have lack of airbags
that could causes of road accidents.
 Road safety is not just about creating infrastructure. It also includes
designing behavioural solutions that consider human biases because
building the former does not mean people will always follow them.

In 2015, government take road safety as a serious issue. India signed the
Brasilia Declaration and committed to reducing road accidents.

Brasilia Declaration is a second global high level conference on road safety


held in Brazil.in the declaration, participants reasserted their commitment to
reduce the deaths caused due to traffic accidents to half by the year 2020. This
target was set under the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. In 2017, read
accidents in India decreased by merely 3027%.

The government of India has recognised that road accidents is a leading


or major cause of death in the country. It has also recognised the
importance of addressing road safety in order to reduce the number of
accidents, deaths and injuries on the road.
The government of india has taken various decisions which show its
intent to ensure that roads in India remain safer. It has approved a
National road safety policy. It includes raising awareness about road
safety, creating a road safety information database, safer road
infrastructure, encouraging safer vehicles, enforcing road safety rules or
laws.
