ECO-CHAIRS: COMBATING THE RAPID PRODUCTION OF PLASTIC WASTES

Often when you think you are in the end of something and you are at the beginning of

something else, there is no such thing as a way. When we throw anything away it will go

somewhere, but if you put the whole picture together, recycling is the right thing to do.

Plastic pollution is caused due to the accumulation of the waste plastic material in the

environment. Plastic is a non bio-degradable substance. It doesn’t get disposed off in the soil or

water and its effect is worse when burnt. It is thus a challenge to dispose it off. It remains in the

environment for hundreds of years and causes air, water and land pollution. It is hazardous for the

humans, animals as well as the plants. Several animals, birds and marine creatures die due to plastic

pollution each year.

Many recycling companies take used plastic containers, plastic bottles and other stuff made

of this material and recycle it. It is suggested to give away such plastic items to these companies

rather than throwing them in the bin and adding to the plastic waste. Now, we BSED SCIENCE

major students joined together to protect our environment. We made a way to lessen the production

of plastic wastes. In terms of collecting plastic wrappers and plastic bottles, we make chair which

we called eco-chairs.

Production of plastic wastes such as wrappers and bottles are highly observed among

students at Cagayan State University-Andrews Campus. On the other hand, we collected all those

plastic wrappers and bottles in order to form eco-bottles. As we continued collecting them, we

abled to create enough eco-bottles to yield an eco-chair. With the initiative of everyone, as a result

we formed two eco-chairs. With the help of our professor we come up an idea to transform it to
more aesthetical value. This process is what we called upholster. To make it possible, we

contributed to race a fund for the payment of the said activity.

Plastic pollution is rising at a rapid speed and has become a cause of major concern.

Therefore, it is time for us to stand united to fight this evil called plastic pollution. If each one of

us do the same thing as what we did then we can certainly bring down the pollution level to a large

extent. Each one of us must work towards combating this problem.
