Background

Reason for choosing the advocacy/cause

Our group chose education as our advocacy because we want to reach out to children who are
not fortunate to have access to formal education. We also want to raise awareness about the
essence of education, especially while they are still at a young age.

Brief description of the community/organization and reason for choosing it

As suggested by our member, Dorothy, we chose to help the street children living near Harvest
Baptist Church in Mandaluyong City. We wanted to give them a day they would surely remember
by holding a class full of fun activities and later on providing them with scrumptious food.

What will we do to address this problem?

Our group will hold an outreach program where we will have a tutorial class for the less fortunate
children near our chosen venue. We will also release publicity materials containing the details of
our project and necessary information that explains how important it is to reach out and help
those who need help the most.

How long the project will take

Since the target date is on October 26, a Saturday, we have 2 weeks to prepare for the event,
starting on October 11, Friday. We plan to hold our event for a maximum of 3 hours (starting
from 8 AM and ending at 11 AM). Our event will be divided into an introduction where a prayer,
the singing of the national anthem, and the recitation of Panatang Makabayan will be
administered. Next is the actual teaching part. At least 3 members will conduct this while the
remaining 2 is in charge of documenting the event. A short snack break comes next followed by
fun activities that focus on the lessons taught in the teaching part.

Resources needed

Place (venue), chairs, school supplies like pencils, paper, erasers, and others, snacks (sandwiches,
juice, chocolates, candies), financial resources, teaching materials

Objectives
● To help the children improve on their basic skills like writing, and reading, and also teach
them important life values that they may carry on as they grow older.
● Impart the importance of education in our youth.
● Raise awareness about the condition of our beneficiaries and garner help from the public,
particularly the authorities, as well.

Possible risks and challenges

Challenges that may be encountered How we will overcome the challenge

Difficulty in looking for a venue and Asking assistance from the authorities where
equipment like chairs and tables. they can provide us with the materials
needed.

Preparing a backup plan where at least 2

members provide their own equipment.

Insufficient supplies not enough for all the Preparing backup supplies by adding an extra
children of 10 more sets of supplies

Availability of the members. Choose the best date where all the members
are available.

Our funds may not be enough to support the Starting a GoGetFunding campaign where we
event share this online and hopefully convince
people to donate to our project (link is at

Resources needed

Since we plan to accommodate a maximum of 30 children, we are planning to allocate at least

150 pesos per child. This includes school supplies and their food. Hopefully, the GoGetFunding
campaign we launched gets enough buzz and reaches its target fund of 6000 pesos and possibly
exceed this target. Transportation is shouldered personally by each member.

Non-monetary resources

For our posters, we can use recycled materials like old readings and scratch papers. Aside from
posting this in various places where the public can see, we also plan to post and promote our
event in select social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Additionally, an official
hashtag will be used (#BangatKarunungan) to gain more attention and to let people know how
serious we are with this project. Other supplies needed like the cleaning materials and tables and
chairs are provided by the church where the event will take place. Teaching materials will be
personally provided by each member. We also plan to possibly use a DSLR camera to record
footage of our event. Cellular phones by members will also be used to document the event. Shan
has volunteered to make use of her laptop for a more interactive and techy interaction with the
children.
