STATE OF THE ENVIRONMENT TASK

THURSDAY – 23RD JULY

POSTER TASK

This task needs to be completed during the lesson and handed in.

Each student needs to choose one of the 8 Themes from the State of Environment
Report and create an informative poster that can be used by everyone to learn
about that Theme.

If you are slack and only do the bare minimum everyone will
suffer because these posters will be shared on the Google site and
around the room as a learning resource.

Criteria
 Choose one of the 8 Themes from the 2011 State of
Environment Report
 Include a description of the Theme and what is being measured
 Describe the current state of that theme and whether it is
improving, declining or staying the same.
 Identify and describe some key threats to that theme – give
some detail about this
 Include some of the strategies that are or could be
implemented to improve the state of this theme. Also include
some of the challenges that may be faced in implementing this.
 Give examples from an area or environment – This doesn’t
have to be one we have visited or studied. If you can find
anything in your book or on the internet.
 Include pictures and diagrams – make it interesting

Resources
Use the Website of the SOE report:
https://www.environment.gov.au/science/soe/2011-
inbrief/contents

Use your textbook pages 252 – 256. The textbook contains basic
information. You will need more plus examples so don’t just rely on
the textbook.

Use the powerpoint on the Unit 4 OES Google Site. The 4.1.3 page
contains a powerpoint as an attachment. This has summaries from
the SOE report for most of the theme areas. I couldn’t find Inland
Water but most of the others are there. You just have to scroll
through the slides until you find the topic you are looking for
