What are features?
• Having a good understanding of the key
features of the land helps us read maps &
navigate our way around.

• These skills are very useful for:

– Orienteering,
– Bushwalking and
– Adventure racing.
– But most importantly it help us avoid getting lost!!
Features
• Have a look at the directions you gave
your friend at the start of class (about how
to get to you house from here at school).
– Did you would tell them some key features about how
to get there?
– For example, look out for signs, go past the teddy
shop, turn left at the park, cross over the
bridge/creek, at the top of the hill, etc.

• These are all features of the land.
