Student’s Wearing Uniform and It’s effect to their

Academic Performance

School uniform is generally used in the Philippines according to K12 academics,


school uniform also know as school attire. It is worn in public and private shool.
Wilde (2018) said that school uniform may be a while buttom down shirt and
ties for boys, pleated skirt for girls and blazers adorned with the school logo.

There are advantages in wearing school uniforms. Wilde also said that school
uniforms helps students resist peer pressure to buy trendy clothes , Identify
outsiders in the school , encourage discipline , increase sense of belonging and
school pride and lastly improve student’s attendance . A study was also
conducted by the University of Houston suggest that school uniform has an
impact to student’s grade , attendance and behaviour.

Despite of the said benefits of wearing school uniform opponents says school
uniform infringe student’s right to express themselves , has no positive effect on
student’s behaviour and academic achievement and only emphasize the
socionomic differences they intended to disguise.

Based in the DepEd Order No. 45 Series 2008 , that school uniform is no longer
required in public school. According to Lapis (2008) , that in order to increase
school participation of all school , it is important to remove obstacles
particularly financial , to their enrolment in public schools.

Tolosa National High School (TNHS) is located at Brgy. Malbog , Tolosa Leyte.
TNHS has an average population of 2026 in school year 2019-2020. The Junior
High School (SHS) is made up of 1510 students and Senior High School (SHS) has
516 students.

The study that will be conducted is to determine if wearing uniform has an


effect to academic performance of the students. This study hopes to help
students and school administrators knows if there is a relevance in wearing
school uniform in the academic performance of the students.
