To enable student teachers to:
1. Apply the correct use of grammar, sentence types and mood. (C3, LO1, LO2)
2. Demonstrate appropriate listening and speaking skills in response to various stimuli in
groups. (C3, P5, A3, LO4, LO5, CS2, TS1)
3. Apply appropriate reading strategies to various texts for reading comprehension. (C3,
LO2)
4. Write coherently the various text types. (C6, A2, LO3, LO6, CTPS2, LL2)
(This coursework addresses learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.)
Objektif Kerja Kursus:
The objectives of this assignment are to evaluate student teachers’ ability to:
1. apply the use of grammar, sentence types and mood in a grammar quiz.
2. demonstrate appropriate listening and speaking skills in a role-play based on the
stimulus.
3. present TWO graphic organisers based on information gathered from any TWO articles
from two sources on educational issues.
4. write a 1000 word essay on one of the genres: narrative, descriptive, expository,
argumentative.
PROJECT (100%)
This coursework is relevant for student teachers as it is designed to enhance their
English Language Proficiency. It will enable them to acquire declarative and
procedural knowledge to develop consciousness of the language competence.
The tasks involved in this coursework are:
Task 1 – Grammar Quiz (30%)
i. Individually, students answer a 2-hour paper of Topics 1 – 4, consisting of 4 parts
structured questions; Section A: MCQ, Section B: Cloze Text with options, Section C:
Cloze Text without options and Section D: Essay
Task 2 – Role Play (20%)
i. Each student will be given a role before group interaction begins.
ii. Students are given TWO minutes to prepare their responses based on a situation.
iii. Each group will be given Eight minutes to interact.
iv. Each student will be assessed individually even though it is a group task.
v. Each student must attempt to speak more, convincingly and confidently, using
appropriate and effective communication skills.
Task 3 – Graphic Organisers (20%)
i. Individually, source of information on any issue pertaining to educational books,
magazines, journals and the Internet.
ii. Read and select TWO articles from TWO different sources. (Provide evidence of
reading by highlighting, underlining etc.. of articles, Submit the articles)
iii. Use your computer skills to present the information in the form of short notes in
suitable graphic organiser(s).
Task 4 – Essay – (30%)
Individually to write an essay of 1000 words on one these titles:
i. a wedding
ii. begin your study with this sentence: “ he looks around. It’s dark and the moon had
not risen ......”
iii. Discuss how important is your family to you.
iv. Everyone should stay in school until the age of eighteen. To what extent do you
agree or disagree.
GUIDELINES FOR THE PROJECT:
1. This coursework requires you to work both individually and collaboratively.
2. You are encouraged to collaborate to research for data
3. References should include journals, reference books and internet sources.
4. Referencing procedures must follow the APA (American Psychological
Association style)
5. Essay should show your originality and maturity. Plagiarism is strongly
prohibited.
6. The front cover / page of the assignment consists of:

A good assignment should show:
Accurate graphic organisers which reflect summary of articles.
Evidence of reading from a variety of sources

Effective expression and appropriate language usage
