 ABOUT THE HOST INSTITUTE
ESSO-National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research
(NCPOR, erstwhile NCAOR) is an autonomous R&D
Institution under the Ministry of Earth Sciences
(MoES). NCPOR spearheads the Indian polar research
activities in the Arctic, Antarctic, Southern Ocean
and the Himalayas. The Indian exploration of Polar
Regions started in 1981 with the Antarctic Expedi-
tion and expanded its horizon to Southern Ocean
research in 2004 and with a bipolar focus on Arctic
in 2007 and Himalayan activities in 2013. The Indian
scientists have also traversed to the South Pole in
2010 to commemorate the 100 years of the first hu-
man presence in the geographic South Pole NCPOR
is also a nodal agency for major geo-scientific explo-
rations of strategic importance.
AIM AND OBJECTIVE
After the stupendous success of NCPS-2017, attracting
more than 230 participations including about 100
young researchers that provided an opportunity
to the Indian polar community for interacting on a
common platform. NCPS-2019 aims to bring eminent
researchers working in diverse polar regions of
Arctic, Antarctic, Southern Ocean and the Himalayas
to a common ground where the interdisciplinary
approaches can be discussed to address the various
scientific and operational issues. This event will also
provide a platform for Early Career Researchers to
interact, exchange their research ideas, findings and
experiences.
VENUE AND DATE
The conference is being hosted by the National
Centre for Polar & Ocean Research, Goa, at NCPOR
premises during August 20-22, 2019.
Young Polar Scientist Meet
One day Young Polar Scientist Meet (YPSM) on 20th
August, 2019, will offer an opportunity to young
researchers to interact with polar experts of national/
international repute. The aim of this YPSM is to
support their scientific skills and to build a national
