1. Illustration is a word derived from the Dutch language ilustratie which means a
decoration with a picture. In terminology, illustration is an image that has a function as a
means to explain an event. According to experts (Soedarso, 1990) states that an illustration
is a picture that paints a specific purpose as for example in short story.z

2. Benefits of Illustration
An illustration has many meanings and meanings. It helps us understand the meaning
implicit in an article through images. The following are the functions of the illustrations
that will be studied in depth:
1. Attract the reader's attention. Illustrations can be used to give a complete picture of
the contents of a work. One example is in magazines or books. An illustration is very
good to make the reader curious and make them addicted to read it further.
