Pleurotus florida, according to Jonathan (2002), is an excellent is highly nutritious mushroom which is a

common species in tropical West Africa and Southern part of Asia.

Wolter et al (1997),proposed that P. florida is suitable for bioremediation of contaminated soils because
of its ability to degrade highly condensed polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and its high tolerance
of these substrates.

According to Worldwide Science Organization, white oyster mushroom (Pleurotus florida) is an edible
mushroom that gained popularity due to its nutritional values, low production cost and ease of
cultivation.

In the study of M.G Kholodny Institute of Botany National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, they said
fungi have been value throughout the world as both food and medicine for thousands of years, their
role in human civilisation is expanding every day.

The diversity of quantity of agricultural cellulosic residues generated by the farming activities and agro
industries concerns in many countries.

Pleurotus florida belongs to family Pleurotaceae and its commonly called Dhingri in India.

Studies conducted by Tan (1981), he revealed that cotton waste was the best subtrate for the cultivation
of Pleorotus ostreatus.

Obodai et al (2002) reported that sawdust substrate for mushroom production should undergo a period
of composting to breakdown the cellulose and lignin components of the wood in order to release the
essential materials for establishment of mushroom mycelium.
