History and Information about Kabisig

Kabisig is a church organization that is included in a Parish Youth Ministry or PYM. Youth
Ministry, also commonly referred to as youth group, is an age-specific religious
ministry. Faith groups or other religious organizations carry out youth ministry to involve and
engage with young people who attend their places of worship, or who live in
their community. Parish youth ministry specifically Kabisig usually encompasses one or more of
the following:

 encouraging young people (whether they have professed a faith or not) to learn more about a
given faith and to become more involved in spiritual life
 providing many activities for the common good of the young people, sometimes without an
overtly religious agenda

As well as organizing events and activities, Kabisig will usually include some form of religious
instruction and pastoral oversight of young people.

Kabisig has an accessible place for young people who choose to meet and socialize in an
informal setting. Opportunities to develop skills and confidence are built into the program. The
youth group will be supported by adults, but will be a place where young people design their
own program and activities whilst developing a sense of community and participation

Activities in the field range from small scale youth groups attached to parishes
or Catholic schools, to large international gatherings, such as World Youth Day. It is a field
which has evolved much over recent decades, especially in comparison to more formal methods
of education or catechesis within the church. Nearly all dioceses and a great deal of parishes
have some form of youth provision running and one of it is Kabisig, although a great deal of
areas particularly in the developed world are finding youth work both more difficult and rare as
the numbers of young people regularly practicing the Catholic faith continue to decline. In
contrast, though, the new and exciting developments of recent decades and particularly the
influence of the new movements within the church are ensuring that youth work continues to be
an active and fruitful field.

My Reflection
“A Day to Remember”

In this event that I've attended, at first I hesitate to go because there are a lot of school
works to do and I also want to rest even for a day. This event was held last September 8, 2019,
Sunday. After attending morning mass, our organization which is the Esperanza May Flower
Organization (EMFO) or the parish youth ministry organized everything for the Marian Exhibit
which every barangay should participate on this event. Saturday evening, we prepared
everything. From the tent for the booth until all the decorations on it and buys ingredients for the
food to be cook on the event. It was expected that many people will go on the exhibit and those
resident of our barangay will surely stay at our booth that's why our organization prepared food
for the lunch and snacks of each and every one that will go to our booth. Organizing it was so
stressful most especially for me because I am the treasurer and I need to manage our budget
money properly and also we don't have enough money so I need to use it properly.
The day comes and there are programs which do have many tasks to be done. After the
mass, there is a procession of each Mama Mary at the town of Alfonso. After the procession,
there are many performances and many more happened. All people that are present there also
sing a birthday song to greet Mama Mary. My Mom and I also roam around the exhibit to see the
beauty of each statue of Mama Mary, they are all amazing. Their gowns looks like that it was so
expensive and classy. How great Mama Mary was because there are many devotees of her and it
can be seen inside the exhibit.
I was also amazed on how I managed my time properly because I attended the event at
the church and I also able to finish all my school works. God was so amazing; He didn't let me to
finish my whole day without finishing my entire task. Despite of many activities that were held, I
didn't feel any tiredness or pressure. I just go with the flow and enjoyed every single moment.
All in all, I learned that despite of those hectic and busy schedules. We need to a lot time
to show how faithful we were because even if we think that we need to rest or we lack of time, if
we attend on events of the church, God will make away for us to finish all of it and for us to be
productive always. Keep the faith on and always believe in the presence of the Lord for He will
not let us to be in danger.
