CHIEF GIRL SCOUT MEDAL

SCHEME SUMMARY
Project: ECOLOGY- Seventh Day Adventist Church Beautification
Locale: Brgy. Cabasagan, Matanao, Davao del Sur
INTRODUCTION

When I was young I joined the Girl Scout of the Philippines. I was once a Star Scout,
Junior Girl scout and Senior Girl Scout. When I was in Grade 7 I have the idea about the
Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme because of my sister Neshel Joy B. Lumawag who is a Chief
Girl Scout Medalist 2015. And I wanted to be a medalist someday. I attended the Chief Girl
Scout Medal Scheme orientation twice, when I was in Grade 8 and Grade 9. Back that time, I
was just sitting in the floor looking up to the gold-whitish medal hanged in green collar
ribbon that the speaker was holding. For me, it was an extreme and rare medal for a Girl
Scout.

Before, I have the ideas on what am I going to do if ever I’ll be applying the said
Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme. When I was in Grade 7-8 I was also one of the work groups
of my co-Girl Scout who are applying as a Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme. And I was
motivated because they are helping their community, they preserve our culture and nature.
And so, when I was in Grade 9 I took the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme without hesitation.

I asked permission to my parents about the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme, at first I can see
that they are hesitating to my decision, that I’ll be applying the CGSMS because, I have
some other responsibilities in our school. But thhe passion within my heart, I can feel it. I can
do it with the help of my family, friends and beneficiaries. Gladly, they said yes, they will
support me to my CGSMS. My school, Matanao National High School made such history last
2013 for it produce first-ever Chief Girl Scout Medalist in the whole Municipality of
Matanao. So, I said to myself that if they can achieve it why can’t I? Out from the given area
of work; Ecology, Health, Livelihood and Cultural Heritage, I’ve chosen to pursue Ecology
mainly the beautification. I chose this area of work for this is what I have seen that is lacking
in my community. My chosen project is Beautification of our church, the Seventh Day-
Adventist church at Brgy. Cabasagan, Matanao, Davao del Sur.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As a youth and a Girl Scout it is our responsibility to serve our community. I have a
dream; a big dream to be an instrument of change in every community. I dream of becoming
a Chief Girl Scout Medalist who is willing and eager to help and serve the community.

This project was launched last October 20, 2019 together with my family, troop
leader, workgroups, friends, and my beneficiaries. Some of the accomplishments are the
following; we have the garden, we painted the flower boxes and fence, plant some flowers to
make the area more attractive, we have fixed the fence and repair the church. I solicited the
herbal plants from my grandparents, and my grandmother donated 5 sacks of bagaso for my
garden. I planted some flowers and herbal plants at our home and transferred the plants to the
church. I also tell the beneficiaries that I would love to beautify the whole place. To my
surprise, they have same ideas as mine so they immediately agreed.

I made my time table and write down who are the possible people that could sponsor
my project and I needed workforce and I selected my workgroup from some Senior and
Cadet Girl Scouts in our school. I choose my Co-Girl Scout who is also active in scouting and
some Chief Girl Scout Medalist helps me in my project. Also, my supportive troop leader,
Maam Jerma Zabala and to our GSP School coordinator, Maam Marie Fredilyn Rudinas,
gave their advices and reminders in me. They told me to keep the same fire; from planning,
undergoing till I receive the award. They told me that the moment I dreamt for this will fuel
my passion out from it. The goal here is not to impress other people but to express what
really I want to do.

But sadly last December an earthquake occur and its magnitude was 6.9 and our
church has been damaged. The back and front part of it was damaged, and we had a meeting
and had the plan, to repair the church. So, we solicited from Mrs. Asila Asure and she gave
fifty thousand pesos for the church it was very fulfilling that she gave a big amount for the
repair of the church. Indeed, God will provide.

On December 28, 2019, we conduct a year end thanks giving at the Church, to thank
God that we are still safe from everything that has happened and we had some activities like
exchanging gifts, and games. And Last January there was an outbreak of COVID-19 disease,
and the virus was spreading. Last March, we are in quarantine. And, it was very hard for me
to visit my area because it was kilometers away from my home and because of the Corona
Virus outbreak all of the people are advised to stay at home or what we called as “home
quarantine.” So, I asked my work group if they can water my plants in their vacant time.

The Earthquake and Pandemic won’t stop my dreams that I can be a Chief Girl Scout
Medalist. This achievement has inspired and motivates me that even though you are facing a
big challenge in your life you can still do it if you are confident and determined. Earthquake
and Covid-19 are clear manifestation that we do not own this place. Once we exploit our
mother nature, it will really comeback to us, bringing us the worst case scenarios. They are
powerful reminder that God is in control, so we must always pray to him and ask for his
protection.

Impact to the Community

The main purpose of my CGSMS Project is to make a change in my community. The

experiences were not easy yet fulfilling. My CGSMS project was accepted whole-heartedly
of my beneficiaries. With that change, it prompted them to lend their helping hands just to
contribute in my project. The Beneficiaries was so thankful that even in my young age, I am
able to do something for them. I was able to beautify and turn our church into a beautiful and
attractive, whenever we have a fellowship in our church, it is very presentable and they are
amazed of the transition. Indeed, the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme is really God’s
blessings.

Learning Achieved and Values Acquired

In working this project, it has changed me a lot lately in my social, spiritual and to my
attitudes. While the project is progressing, a lot of problems has passed. Sometimes, I felt like
there is no solution. I thought that everything was unfair but, my parents and friends helped
me and motivated me to keep working on my project despite of the threat of Corona virus
and earthquakes. I realized that I should not depend on other people, and I should stand up
and work. Being dependent to other people will lead you to nothing. This also had improved
my confidence in facing and talking to the persons with higher ranks. I know that because of
this project it has changed me, it molds me to be a better person. All the hardships I faced, the
sleepless nights, the emotional breakdown and many more was all worth it.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The success and final outcome of my project was paved with lots of assistance and
guidance from many people and I am much privileged to get this all in the making of my
project. As the candidate of the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme, I would like to extend my
warmest gratitude to the following people who helped me and supported me all throughout
my project. All that I have achieved became possible with their supervision and I would not
forget to thank them.

To the elders of the church. Bro. Indino Bro. Batalon and Bro. Dingding. Their active
support and involvement from the very beginning until the end of my project was very
surprising. To all my beneficiaries of Seventh Day Adventist church, who actively engaged
themselves during gatherings and showed great interests in my project, thank you. Seeing the
smiles carved in their faces makes my heart full which had prompted me to still continue
serving others even after the project. To auntie Asila Asure who gave P50,000.00 for the
repair of the church, thank you so much auntie, no words can express how thankful I am.

To my family, Mommy Shelda B. Lumawag and Daddy Ernesto F. Lumawag, who

unwaveringly supported me, Their selfish support from finding funds, materials and sponsors
were truly extreme and their guidance and motivation were my reasons why shall I pursue
and reach the finishing line of my project. They supported me financially, physically,
mentally, materially, spiritually and emotionally-the reasons why I became a medallist.

To my spiritual Leader, Mrs. Lilia B. Lumawag who is also my Grandmother. Thank

you for supporting me throughout this journey and for being my spiritual leader. To Auntie
Leah Javelona my, for helping and for motivating me in this project, thank you so much.

To my workgroup- Ate Kristha, Ate Rienchelle, Ate andrea, Ate Alleyah, Heaven
love, Fallen and Mikay. Who are willingly lend their hand during the implementation of my
project, without their help I would not make these possible and done things at its designated
dates and timelines.
To Tita Marie Fredilyn Rudinas the GSP School Coordinator and to my dynamic
Troop Leader Tita Jerma B. Zabala, who were always hands-on before, during and after the
project, I am thankful for all the valuable insights that they have shared in me regarding on
how to get things done and always supported me in all my endeavours. Their support and
trust in me have moulded me into what I am today. It gives great impact not just in my being
but also in the community, which I am continuing my duties and responsibilities being a Girl
Scout.

Most of all, our Almighty Father. For giving the strength, guidance and inspiration.
He gave me this great opportunity that I could always look on to as I grew. This project was
His instrument to me spiritually, for I have learned to believe and surrender everything for I
know that my faith can move mountains. Also this project had taught me that I can do the
best out of my skills and potentials. I have realized so many things upon implementing this
project and that’s because of Him. He proved to me that when we submit all our works in
Him, He will establish our paths through it. This project would not have been made possible
without Him, and I dedicate this unforgettable milestone to Him.
