Proposed Title: POTATEA
Research Discipline:
Potato, (Solanum tuberosum), annual plant in the nightshade family (Solanaceae), grown for its
starchy edible tubers. The potato is native to the Peruvian-Bolivian Andes and is one of the
world’s main food crops. Potatoes are frequently served whole or mashed as a
cooked vegetable and are also ground into potato flour, used in baking and as a thickener for
sauces. The tubers are highly digestible and supply vitamin C, protein, thiamin, and niacin.
Mojo potatoes are seasoned potato rounds that are deep fried and served as an accompaniment of
a fried chicken, a dish that is popularized by Shakey’s Pizza. It is coated with a combination of
egg, flour and other spices. Another variety of potato is French fries. French fries or simply fries
or chips, are pieces of potato that have been deep-fried. These are very thin, salted slices of
potato that are usually served at room temperature. Fries have numerous variants, from thick-cut
to shoestring, crinkle, curly and many other names.
Milk tea refers to several forms of beverage found in many cultures, containing some
combination of tea and milk. Beverages vary based on the amount of each of these key
ingredients, the method of preparation, and the inclusion of other ingredients (varying
from sugar or honey to salt or cardamom). Instant milk tea powder is a mass-produced product.
This drink is so popular nowadays and definitely a consumer’s choice.
Potatea is derived from the words potato and tea. It is inspired by “Kerimoto” wherein the fries,
any of the customer’s choice, are placed in a cup above the drink. In Potatea, fries and mojos are
placed in a cup above the milk tea. There are various flavors to choose from. Flavors available
for fries and mojos are cheese, barbecue, and sour cream. On the other hand, milk tea classic
flavors are hokkaido, wintermelon, and okinawa.
Theoretical Background:
By 1795, potatoes were being grown on a very large scale in France, including at the royal
gardens at Tuileries, where the gardens were converted into potato fields. Within that span of
time, the French either invented or learned to make fries. Once discovered/invented French fries
became extremely popular in France, particularly in Paris, where they were sold by push-cart
vendors on the streets and called “frites.” Eventually, other ways of cooking potatoes are
discovered which gave rise to mojo potatoes. (Haskey, 2010)
Drinking tea is a Taiwanese pastime that verges on obsession. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner
there’s a variety of tea to perfectly complement any food and suit any palate. But when it comes
to an afternoon drink or something to sip on while wandering through the local night market,
nothing beats a pearl milk tea, Taiwan’s (unofficial) official drink. (Mceneaney, 2019)
Knowledge Gap:
Based on the related studies, the researchers performed a knowledge gap analysis to identify the
success of the business. It is a trial and error business risk for the entrepreneurs. The proponents
used a descriptive method through survey in order to fill the gap. This study aims to create an
innovation of Kerimoto by using popular finger foods and drink in a very affordable price.
Statement of the Problem:
In order to achieve the goals of the study, the researchers sought to answer the following
questions:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of?
a) Age
b) Gender
2. What are the customer’s expectations in terms of?
a) Price
b) Taste
c) Product Presentation
3. How can Potatea attract its customers in terms of?
a) Name
b) Location
c) Flavors
Research Paradigm:
Input Process Output
Profile of the Questionnaire Assessment and
respondents in terms of: Descriptive analysis of
Survey acquired data
Age
Statistical through
Gender
Treatment interpretation
Tabulation of Product
Data implementation
The figure above describes the conceptual framework of the study wherein the input
consists of the following: Age and Gender. On the other side, the process being used is through
questionnaire, descriptive survey, tabulation of data and statistical treatment such as percentage,
frequency and weighted mean. The output is the assessment and analysis of acquired data
through interpretation to develop a basis for the aspiring entrepreneurs in order to lead the
business a successful way. The table shows how the researchers researched, surveyed and solved
their thesis statement.
Significance of the Study:
To the Students. This study will provide advanced knowledge for the students who are planning
to run a microenterprise in the future. Through this research, students may purposely discover the
history of the main ingredients, milk tea and potatoes. Students may use this study as their guide
for their thesis and research paper. They will also discover new products of Potatea that fits their
budget and are very convenient to consume. They can fill their stomachs with delicious snacks
and drinks at an affordable price.
To the Aspiring Entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs may use this study as a guide in starting a
business. They can get ideas from this research that may benefit their business. This study may
contribute to the success of their business.
To the Employees. This study will benefit employees who are always in rush because this
product is served in a short span of time. The product is very convenient for them because they
can carry it while they are walking.
Research Design:
To meet the research objectives of this study, a survey was developed to determine whether the
newly introduced product will be patronized by consumers or not. The research instrument used
in the study was the survey questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed as structured or
closed form wherein the statements are basically short and require the respondents to check their
answer on a list of given responses.
