-a service, site, or method that delivers media to an audience.
-an informatic space where actors divulge messages to others.
-It’s functions are to deliver, but also sometimes to allow for feedback, discussion,
or sharing.

MEDIA PLATFORMS FOR COMMUNICATION


In this era of technological advancement, there are numerous messaging apps that
subscribers can choose from. The messaging apps are used for chatting purposes. They
make communication easy with respect to such as instant messaging and voice calls. The
messaging apps can be installed on a smartphone regardless of the smartphone operating
system. There are mobile devices that use Windows, Android or iOS operating systems.
Currently, apps are easy to download on the smartphone and chat straight away.
However, it is important to acknowledge that different messaging apps have different
features.

Some of the common features of the apps include:

• Ability to make voice and video calls


• They are free
• Instant messaging
• Photo sharing

1. Facebook Messenger
-sometimes abbreviated as Messenger
-free instant messaging service and software application which provides text and
voice communication.
-Messenger lets Facebook users chat with friends both on mobile and on the main
website.
-Facebook launched Messenger in August 2011 after the acquisition of a group
messaging app called Beluga. Although it's owned and operated by Facebook, the app
and website are separate from Facebook.

2. Facebook
HISTORY OF FACEBOOK
-Founded on February 4, 2004
-Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes in a
Harvard dorm room,

But before there was Facebook, there was Facemash.


In 2003, as a sophomore, Zuckerberg created a site that compared the pictures of
different Harvard students' faces and allowed users to rate the attractiveness of those
pictures - attracting 450 people to vote 22,000 times. However, because Zuckerberg
violated the school's policy by hacking into the school's system to acquire photos for the
site, it was shut down quickly by the university - within two days. Still, Zuckerberg
avoided expulsion. However, Facemash's success sparked the idea for Facebook - a
social networking site where students at Harvard could use their ".edu" email addresses
and photos to connect with other students at the school.

At its most simple level, Facebook - like other social media tools - allows
individuals to connect with each other on a one-to-one basis.

Keep In Touch With Faraway Family and Friends


Think of Facebook as a personal news site where the only stories written are about
people you know. Facebook users like to share photos and write short updates on their
life. You might get a friendly ‘just saying hi!’ email only once a month, but people
interact with Facebook on a daily basis. So every time you log in to Facebook, you’ll see
these updates and photos (only the ones from people who you have friended). You can
write a little note underneath their posts. Or send them a private message (similar to an
email but sent through Facebook instead). It’s a great way to see the everyday lives of
friends and family that you can’t see every day.

3. WhatsApp Messenger
Just like the Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp has been downloaded by over one
billion users.
WhatsApp serves as platform for both instant messaging and audio/video calls
it is the second largest messaging app globally. After its acquisition by Facebook,
the messaging app has grown in leaps and bounds.
What makes WhatsApp stand out from the rest of the apps is the fact that it does
not have any advertisements.
it is free and can be downloaded easily.

Origins of Whatsapp
Brian Acton and Jan Koum, the founders of WhatsApp, both worked as
employees of Yahoo! before leaving the company. Shortly thereafter, they both applied
for jobs at Facebook—jobs that had they been accepted to would have likely left them
unable to start WhatsApp—but were turned down. At the time, Koum was living off of
his savings from Yahoo!, with little direction as to where his next career path would take
him. In 2009, though, after purchasing an iPhone, Koum had the vision to see that an
entire industry was about to form based around mobile apps. Looking to capitalize on
this up-and-coming industry, Koum began to explore the possibility of creating an app
that would let mobile users better interact and engage with their friends, family, and
business contacts. Teaming up with Brian Acton, Koum managed to persuade five
associates from Yahoo! to fund the app with $250,000, and in 2009 WhatsApp was
launched.

3. Line
Line is a messaging app created in the wake of the 2011 Japanese Tsunami. As a
result of the disaster many normal channels of communication had broken down and the
Line app was developed by internet company Naver for its staff as a means of
internet-based communication.Line, a messaging app made by South Korea’s Naver
Corp. that took off in Japan, just crossed 100 million users globally 19 months after it
originally launched.
With over 200 million active users, Line is a free app that enables users to make free
calls and send messages. It is a popular app in the Asian countries. The messaging app
has numerous and amazing features such as line group, video and voice calls, line
stickers and line timelines.
The videos and calls are of high quality too, in case you were wondering. One
amazing feature about the Line app is that the users can play games. However, the users
need to register prior to playing the games.

4. Skype
Skype was founded by Estonian developers Zahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu and Jaan
Tallinn, Danish developer Janus Friis and Sweden’s Niklas Zennstrom. The foremost
voice-over-IP service was launched in August 2003. Skype actually stands for “Sky Peer
to Peer.”
The original Skype application permitted voice calls from PC to PC and little else.
Skype’s original logo was purple. Skype’s 0.9 Beta created the platform to permit calls
to landlines from PC’s on a fee schedule. Through the evolution of various Skype
upgrades, the company continued to experiment with different colours before finally
settling on the current blue background.
By 2010, Skype 4.1 was ingrained in Windows, Mac and Linux. Skype set its
sights on the mobile marketplace such as Android, iPhone and iPad. Early versions only
permitted voice calls. In December 2010, Skype video calls became available to iPhone
users. By June, 2011, Androids enjoyed the same access.

5. WeChat
a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in
China, first released in January 2011. The app is available on Android, iPhone,
BlackBerry, Windows Phone platforms.
It has over 700 million downloads, with 300 million active users. This makes it one
of the most popular social apps in the world, and a valid competitor to WhatsApp and
Viber.
WeChat has multiple features including video chat, voice calling, SMS, games, QR
code scanning and much much more.
WeChat offers full M-commerce capabilities inside the app.
WeChat was built and owned by Tencent Holdings Limited, which is China’s first
globally known Internet brand.

corporate, non-profit, I can guarantee you that it has taken advantage of that space to

There’s several ways to stay entertained on YouTube depending on personal
preference. Different channels include gaming let’s play channels, parody channels,
music channels, vlogs, and much more. Signing into YouTube allows viewers to be able
to subscribe to their favorite channels, which allows them to be able to keep track of new
updates and videos added to the channel. If you don’t have time to watch a video at the
moment, there’s the option of “Watch Later,” which saves it to a playlist that you can
view whenever you please. If you’re not sure what type of video you want to watch, the

"react" or "duet" videos. Users also can set specific videos to either “public”, “friends
only”, or “private” regardless if the account is private or not.
The “for you” page on TikTok is a feed of recommended videos to you based on
your previous actions on the app, consisting of what kind of content you've liked. Users
can only be featured on the “for you” page if they are 16 or over per TikTok policy.
Users under 16 will not show up under the “for you” page, under sounds, or under any
hashtags.
You can also add videos, hashtags, filters, and sounds you like to your “saved”
section. This section shows on your profile (only visible to you) allowing you to refer
back to any video, hashtag, filter, or sound you've previously saved.
