 Reddit - Reddit is an American social news aggregation,


content rating, and discussion website. Registered users
submit content to the site such as links, text posts,
images, and videos, which are then voted up or down by
other members.
 QZone - Qzone is a social networking website based in
China which was created by Tencent in 2005. It allows
users to write blogs, keep diaries, send photos, listen to
music, and watch videos.
 YouTube - YouTube is an online video sharing and social
media platform headquartered in San Bruno, California,
United States. Accessible worldwide, it was launched on
February 14, 2005, by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and
Jawed Karim. It is owned by Google and is the second
most visited website in the world, after Google Search.
 Tagged - Itis a social and mobile technology company
based in San Francisco, California. and owned by The
Meet Group. It was originally known as Tagged Inc. and
owns and operates social networks Tagged.com and
Hi5.com and animated iOS messaging app Nod.
 Orkut - Orkut was a social networking service owned and
operated by Google. The service was designed to help
users meet new and old friends and maintain existing
relationships. The website was named after its creator,
Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten. Orkut was one of
the most visited websites in India and Brazil in 2008.
 Flickr - Flickr is an image hosting and video hosting
service, as well as an online community, founded in
Canada and headquartered in the United States. It was
created by Ludicorp in 2004 and was previously a
common way for amateur and professional photographers
to host high-resolution photos.
 Skype - Skype is a proprietary telecommunications
application operated by Skype Technologies, a division of
Microsoft, best known for VoIP-based videotelephony,
videoconferencing and voice calls. It also has instant
messaging, file transfer, debit-based calls to landline and
mobile telephones, and other features.
 4Chan - 4chan is an anonymous English-language
imageboard website. Launched by Christopher "moot"
Poole in October 2003, the site hosts boards dedicated to
a wide variety of topics, from video games and television
to literature, cooking, weapons, music, history, anime,
fitness, politics, and sports, among others.
 Xing - XING is a Hamburg-based career-oriented social
networking site, operated by New Work SE and owned
mainly by Hubert Burda Media. The site is primarily
focused on the German-speaking market, alongside XING
Spain, and competes with the American platform LinkedIn
 Hi 5 - hi5 is an American social networking service based
in San Francisco, California. It is owned by The Meet
Group. Users can create a profile and provide personal
information including interests, age, photos, and
hometown. Users can also send friend requests via email
to other users.
 LinkedIn - LinkedIn is a business and employment-
focused social media platform that works through websites
and mobile apps. It was launched on May 5, 2003. Since
December 2016, it has been a wholly owned subsidiary of
Microsoft.
 Friendster - Friendster was a social network based in
Mountain View, California, founded by Jonathan Abrams
and launched in March 2003. Later, the company became
a social gaming site based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
 Windows Messenger - MSN Messenger, later rebranded
as Windows Live Messenger, was a cross-platform instant-
messaging client developed by Microsoft. It connected to the now-
discontinued Microsoft Messenger service and, in later versions,
was compatible with Yahoo! Messenger and Facebook
Messenger.
 Windows XP - Windows XP is a major release of Microsoft's
Windows NT operating system. It was released to manufacturing
on August 24, 2001, and later to retail on October 25, 2001.
 Live Journal - LiveJournal, stylised as LiVEJOURNAL, is a
Russian-owned social networking service where users can keep a
blog, journal, or diary. American programmer Brad Fitzpatrick
started LiveJournal on April 15, 1999, as a way of keeping his high
school friends updated on his activities.
 Yahoo! Messenger - Yahoo! Messenger was an
advertisement-supported instant messaging client and
associated protocol provided by Yahoo!. Yahoo!
Messenger was provided free of charge and could be
downloaded and used with a generic "Yahoo ID" which
also allowed access to other Yahoo! services, such as
Yahoo! Mail.v
 AOL - AOL is an American web portal and online service
provider based in New York City. It is a brand marketed by
the current incarnation of Yahoo! Inc. The service traces
its history to an online service known as PlayNET.
PlayNET licensed its software to Quantum Link, that went
online in November 1985.
 Open diary - Open Diary is an online diary community, an
early example of social networking software. It was
founded on October 20, 1998. Open Diary went offline on
February 7, 2014, but was re-launched on January 26,
2018.
 ICQ - ICQ New is a cross-platform instant messaging and
VoIP client. The name ICQ derives from the English
phrase "I Seek You". Originally developed by the Israeli
company Mirabilis in 1996, the client was bought by AOL
in 1998, and then by Mail.Ru Group in 2010.
 Threads - Threads is an online social media and social
networking service operated by Meta Platforms. The app
offers users the ability to post and share text, images, and
videos, as well as interact with other users' posts through
replies, reposts, and likes.
 TruthSocial - Truth Social is an alt-tech social media
platform created by Trump Media & Technology Group, an
American media and technology company founded in
October 2021 by former US president Donald Trump.
 Yik Tak - Yik Yak is a pseudonymous social media
smartphone application that initially launched in 2013 and
relaunched in 2021. The app, which is available for iOS
and Android, allows college students to create and view
discussion threads within a 5-mile radius.
 Gab - Gab is an American alt-tech microblogging and
social networking service known for its far-right userbase.
 Meerkat - Meerkat was a mobile app that enabled users to
broadcast live video streaming through their mobile
device. Once signed up, Meerkat users had the option of
connecting their Facebook and Twitter accounts, to
stream directly to their followers as soon as they went live.
The app was available for both iOS and Android.
 Mastodon - Mastodon is a free and open-source software
for running self-hosted social networking services. It has
microblogging features similar to Twitter, which are offered
by a large number of independently run nodes, known as
instances or servers, each with its own code of conduct,
terms of service, privacy policy, privacy options, and
content moderation policies.
 Thriller - Triller is an American video-sharing social
networking service. The service allows users to create and
share short-form videos, including videos set to, or
automatically synchronized to music using artificial
intelligence technology.
 Beme - Beme was a mobile application created by Matt
Hackett and Casey Neistat, a vlogger and short film maker
on YouTube, and developed by Beme Inc. Beme was
removed from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store
on January 31, 2017.
 Amazon - Amazon.com, Inc. is an American multinational
technology company focusing on e-commerce, cloud
computing, online advertising, digital streaming, and
artificial intelligence.
 Musical.ly - Musical.ly was a social media service
headquartered in Shanghai with an American office in
Santa Monica, California, on which platform users created
and shared short lip-sync videos. The first prototype was
released in April 2014, and then after that, the official
version was launched in August of 2014.
 Google Hangouts - Google Hangouts was a cross-
platform instant messaging service developed by Google.
It originally was a feature of Google+, becoming a
standalone product in 2013, when Google also began
integrating features from Google+ Messenger and Google
Talk into Hangouts.
 8 Chan - 8kun, previously called 8chan, Infinitechan or
Infinitychan, is an imageboard website composed of user-
created message boards. An owner moderates each
board, with minimal interaction from site administration.
 Tumblr - Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking
website founded by David Karp in 2007 and currently
owned by American company Automattic. The service
allows users to post multimedia and other content to a
short-form blog.
 Twitter - Twitter, Inc. was an American social media
company based in San Francisco, California. The
company operated the social networking service Twitter
and previously the Vine short video app and Periscope
livestreaming service.
 Facebook - Meta Platforms, Inc., doing business as Meta,
and formerly named Facebook, Inc., and TheFacebook,
Inc., is an American multinational technology
conglomerate based in Menlo Park, California. The
company owns and operates Facebook, Instagram,
Threads, and WhatsApp, among other products and
services.
 Twitch - Twitch is an American video live streaming
service that focuses on video game live streaming,
including broadcasts of esports competitions, in addition to
offering music broadcasts, creative content, and "in real
life" streams. Twitch is operated by Twitch Interactive, a
subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc.
 Path - Path app allows Pathwright users to bring their
paths with them offline. Once you sign in you will see your
paths and your progress. You can go into a specific path
and continue your learning. Any progress you make will be
synced to your account, even when offline.
 Sina Weito - Weibo, previously Sina Weibo, is a Chinese
microblogging website. Launched by Sina Corporation on
14 August 2009, it is one of the biggest social media
platforms in China, with over 582 million monthly active
users as of Q1 2022.
 Yahoo! - The original incarnation of Yahoo! Inc. was an
American multinational technology company
headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Yahoo was
founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in January 1994
and was incorporated on March 2, 1995. Yahoo was one
of the pioneers of the early internet era in the 1990s.
 Gettr - Gettr is an alt-tech social media platform and
microblogging site targeting American conservatives. It
was founded by Jason Miller, a former Donald Trump aide,
and was officially launched on July 4, 2021. Its user
interface and feature set have been described as very
similar to those of Twitter.
 BeReal - BeReal is a French social media app released in
2020, developed by Alexis Barreyat and Kévin Perreau. Its
main feature is a daily notification that encourages users
to share a photo of themselves and their immediate
surroundings given a randomly selected two-minute
window every day.
 Clubhouse - Clubhouse is a social audio app for iOS and
Android. Clubhouse inspired competitor products from
Meta, Twitter through Twitter Spaces, and Spotify through
a product called Greenroom.
 Parler - Parler is an inactive American alt-tech social
networking service associated with conservatives.
Launched in August 2018, Parler marketed itself as a free
speech-focused and unbiased alternative to mainstream
social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
 Co-Star - Co–Star is an American astrological social
networking service founded in 2017 and headquartered in
New York City. Users enter the date, time and place they
were born to receive an astrological chart and daily
horoscopes that they can compare to those of their
friends.
 TikTok - TikTok, whose mainland Chinese counterpart is
Douyin, is a short-form video hosting service owned by
ByteDance. It hosts user-submitted videos, which can
range in duration from 3 seconds to 10 minutes. Since
their launches, TikTok and Douyin have gained global
popularity.
 Pillow Fort - Pillowfort is an American social media
networking service and microblogging website. The
website was launched in 2017 and is currently in open
beta. As of October 2020, the site had more than 100,000
users. The website is popular among fandoms, the LGBT
community, and adult content creators.
 Discord - Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social
platform. Users have the ability to communicate with voice
calls, video calls, text messaging, media and files in
private chats or as part of communities called "servers".
 Bebo - Bebo was an American social networking website
that originally operated from 2005 until its bankruptcy in
2013 and relaunched in February 2021.
 Periscope - Periscope was an American live video
streaming app for Android and iOS developed by Kayvon
Beykpour and Joe Bernstein and acquired by Twitter, Inc.
before its launch in March 2015. The service was
discontinued on 31 March 2021 due to declining usage,
product realignment, and high maintenance costs.
 Snapchat - Snapchat is an American multimedia instant
messaging app and service developed by Snap Inc.,
originally Snapchat Inc. One of the principal features of
Snapchat is that pictures and messages are usually only
available for a short time before they become inaccessible
to their recipients.
 My space - Myspace is a social networking service based
in the United States. Launched on August 1, 2003, the site
was the first social network to reach a global audience and
had a significant influence on technology, pop culture and
music.
 Patreon - Patreon is a monetization platform operated by
Patreon, Inc., that provides business tools for content
creators to run a subscription service and sell digital
products. It helps creators and artists earn a recurring
income by providing rewards and perks to its subscribers.
 Slack - Slack is a cloud-based freemium cross-platform
instant messaging service created by Slack Technologies
and currently owned by Salesforce. While initially
developed for professional and organizational
communications, it has also been adopted as a
community platform.
 Instagram - Instagram is an American photo and video
sharing social networking service owned by Meta
Platforms. It allows users to upload media that can be
edited with filters, be organized by hashtags, and be
associated with a location via geographical tagging. Posts
can be shared publicly or with preapproved followers.
 Vine - Vine was an American short-form video hosting
service where users could share six-second-long looping
video clips. It was originally launched on January 24,
2013, by Vine Labs, Inc.
 Tinder - Tinder is an online dating and geosocial
networking application launched in 2012. On Tinder, users
"swipe right" to like or "swipe left" to dislike other users'
profiles, which include their photos, a short bio, and some
of their interests.
 Keek - Keek was a free online social networking service
that allowed its users to upload video status updates,
which were called "keeks". Users could post keeks to the
Keek website using a webcam or via the Keek mobile
apps for iPhone,[6] Windows Phone,[7] BlackBerry,[8] or
Android.[9] Users could also reply back with text or video
comments, known as "keekbacks", and share content to
other major social media networks. There was also an
embed option so users could embed their keeks into a
blog or website.
 Quora - Quora is a social question-and-answer website
and online knowledge market headquartered in Mountain
View, California. It was founded on June 25, 2009, and
made available to the public on June 21, 2010. Users can
collaborate by editing questions and commenting on
answers that have been submitted by other users.
 Pinterest - Pinterest is an American image sharing and
social media service designed to enable saving and
discovery of information like recipes, home, style,
motivation, and inspiration on the internet using images
and, on a smaller scale, animated GIFs and videos, in the
form of pinboards.
 Friend Feed - FriendFeed was a real-time feed aggregator
that consolidated updates from social media and social
networking websites, social bookmarking websites, blogs
and microblogging updates, as well as any type of
RSS/Atom feed. It was created in 2007 by Bret Taylor, Jim
Norris, Paul Buchheit and Sanjeev Singh.
 VK - VK is a Russian online social media and social
networking service based in Saint Petersburg. VK is
available in multiple languages, but it is predominantly
used by Russian speakers.
 RenRen - The Renren Network, formerly known as the
Xiaonei Network, is a Chinese social networking service
similar to Facebook. It was popular among college
students. Renren Inc. has its headquarters in Chaoyang
District, Beijing, with additional offices in Shanghai and
Guangzhou.
