Running head: RISK PERCEPTION AND COMMUNICATION UNPLUGGED 2

Communication is the basis of progress in every area of life. It is necessary to have effective

communication to prevent and diminish the conflicts that can arise in any situation or

organization. Risk communication can serve as a tool to bring social responsibility in a group or

organization which creates the risk as there is a population who is facing the conflict. Proactive

planning helped governments combat major calamities during natural disasters through effective

communication and planning. Controversy may exist in assessing a situation and facts should be

used to take a decision rather deciding on assumptions. The conflict or controversy related to risk

communication is commonly misunderstanding. The misunderstandings usually happen due to

miscommunication of any message or when there is false assumption. So, proper communication

is the key to avoid these conflicts. Even though risk communications cannot eliminate risk

completely, it can help to reduce misunderstanding and can help to take proper actions in

controversial situations. However, it is not always necessary to have conflict free situations as it

is better to have small and real issues to keep focus on the track and to improve further. It is vital

to manage the risks with proper and whole information related to the situation and should be

solved with complete attention and facts rather than with any assumptions.
