Introduction

The reason why I am doing this piece of work is that I have something to share with

colleagues. I hope this experience as well as a critic of our both public and private school

students worth it. We all know that there are different sorts of learning styles as well as

teenager´s background. So before judging anybody first of all take your time finding out

more about your students and try getting to know them quite well especially the ones you

think are annoying before getting rid of them kicking them out of the class.

Why are teenagers so concerned about their future?

Nowadays teachers are so concerned about teenage learning process, but they seem to

be more concerned about getting enough money to survive than in learning topics from

the school. Tutors worry a lot about student’s background and even most of them go to

their houses to have a talk with their parents to see what is going on. It is nothing new to

know that a great deal of students have a certain sorts of issue, which range from hanging

out too much with friend to drugs problems.

Now there are things I noticed which are totally different in public schools as well as in

private ones since public institutions have a low-income from the government, this is

another big issue that I prefer not mentioning in this work, the resources they have are

much less limited than the one you can find in a high-income school. I have been working

in both public and private school and I can assure that most of teacher have a better

performing when they are under a little pressure from the principal, telling them what to

do and asking for student´s report every now and then.

Currently, families think of having one or two children since the cost of life is increasing.

Most of children prefer living on the parents to buying a house of their own moreover

things are getting more expensive every day so it is very common to see teenagers

working everywhere in the city. Whatever part time jobs they are doing, they are saving

up and preparing for their future. Everyone know that schools may be the best place for

proper education but not for preparation for the outside working world. Indeed,

teenagers learn a lot of experience through the jobs they do when still being students so

we can say that it also has some benefits.

Firstly, teenagers learn how to arrange their time becoming more responsible as well as

they realize how hard the world is. They start thinking that life is not as easy as it is. I

sadly could see after working in certain places that some children are good at learning

things. they make a big effort to learn any subject and when I see my product on these

children or teenagers I feel so proud of them that I feel like crying and I say myself it´s

definitely worth it.

Another point is that teenagers will appreciate the value of money at a very early age as

they grow up. They care more about others and usually are more eager to learn more in

class because they do not want to fail the exam or semester.

But the most benefit to teenagers working is that they get some useful experiences which

they cannot learn at school. For example, after leaving university, some of them may

know more about the world works and may face and overcome the problems easily than

another who is unexperienced and is afraid of failing, but that is my viewpoint.

On the other hand, having teenagers work at a very early age may also bring up some

consequences for example they might be thinking about different ways of making money

and not focus on their studies. Some of them at the place where I work do not even pay

attention to the class because they are so worried about taking money home or they start

making money and drop out school. this is very common at a school where I used to work

at. The students were so many necessities that some of them decided to wash cars on

the street or sell groceries at the markets.

Some of them where trouble makers, too. They were impossible to control in class as

they did not have a family attention at home. In addition to this, both mother and father

worked far away from the city and came over their child once a week. They usually leave

him either with a relative of theirs or a babysitter who did not look after him at all as she

was not well-paid.

I then came up with a great plan. I stopped focusing on teaching English for a while and

decided to go deeper inside of them – or as far as I know that is what tutors are for. It was

my first year in that school as father of twenty-four trouble makers. I started to treat them

like adults paying a lot of attention on what they said, what they did, and what their

petitions were.

After some weeks, I suddenly noticed certain kind of confidence they had gained from

them. They started off telling me thing about their families, work, even other teachers

classes as well as things they were used to doing in their spare time. Honestly talking

some of them freaked me out and I was scared of the kids I had since they were the worst

students of the worst ones – they had family and drug issues so the school had classified

them into one classroom and I was the tutor of that class.
A year passed by so quickly, we went through many difficulties and overcame some of

them. I grounded them and punished them when I had to, but most importantly I tried to

be as fair as possible I wanted they see that on me. I wanted they see not biased teacher,

but one who set an example to follow I wanted to lead with an example.

To make the story short, I did not manage to change my dear children thinking, I did not

have enough time to become a real example to follow, I was not an example to follow, but

one thing for sure is that I did my best. I cannot regret having wasted any of my time

because time ran out so fast that at the end of the year I knew that would never ever see

them again, and I was pretty sure they knew it, too. So the last they of class the day where

I had to hand out my students´ report card, that day where just few parents turned up,

because most of the parents who attended that day where my students, that day some of

them came up to me and said thank you Teacher. We thank you for treating us the way

you did and we really hope to see you again next year. Of course, I knew that was

impossible because I only had a one-year contract.

To sum up, teenagers have responsibility to concentrate on their academic studies, part-

time jobs are also important for their future work. Personally, I think teenagers should be

allowed to do some part-time jobs to adapt to the working environment and get lessons

from real life.
