Methodology

Locale and Respondents

The study gathered respondents from the provinces of Negros, Bohol, and

Leyte, which are among the many places in the country wherein relevant historical

events took place. In Bohol, Spanish oppression and the brutal violence demonstrated

by the Spaniards in the course of their supremacy led Fransisco Daghoy and his men

to revolt. The province of Leyte has been constantly remembered as the first island

discovered by the Spaniards leading to the subjugation of the Philippines Islands.

Apart from that, the Provincial Capitol of Leyte was the seat of the Philippines

Commonwealth Government during World War II. Negros houses many of the artifacts

belonging to the Japanese colonization and it is in Negros where shrines dedicated to

World War II soldiers are found. Presently, these provinces have a summed population

of 7 million, Negros being the most populated at 4 million. Historical accounts and

artifacts, with great relation to the colonized Philippines, may be attained in these

provinces emitting notable chronicles.

The respondents are of senior age and have first-handedly experienced the

circumstances throughout the time of the Spanish, American and Japanese

Oppression. The respondents were formerly teachers and at present, still can recall

significant dates and people who bestow exceptional contribution to the present-day

Philippines. In consideration of their age, the participants unmistakably have

knowledgeable insights of which up to date individuals cannot apprehend.

Instruments and Techniques


The accessibility of mobile devices has enabled the researchers to conduct

interviews with respondents living far from the researchers. Evidences of conducted

research are existent due to the devices the researchers have on hand such as mobile

phones, laptops and cameras. Built-in voice recorders have furnished the outcome of

the research, giving clear affirmation on the respondents’ perspectives.

Procedures

In addition to the questions stated in the Statement of the Problem, inquiries

that the researchers found stimulating and necessary for the research were given out

to the respondents. The purpose of the research and the respondent’s right to

withdraw participation from the study was elucidated by the attending researcher.

Subsequent to the approval of the respondents to use their statements for the basis

of the study, the participants’ responses were transcribed for further understanding.
Introduction

The growing population of the Philippines has been heavily acknowledged by

individuals here and there. However, a percent of these individuals have not been

exposed to the affliction the elderly have endured during the Spanish, American and

Japanese Oppression. A majority would remain ignorant without proper

comprehension by expertise in relation to the history of one’s state. The study gives

emphasis on the vital perspectives of veterans who have involvement necessary for

the much-needed knowledge of present-day individuals. The present generation’s

understanding on the experiences of the past generation and the flaws which led to

conflicts may contribute to the advancement of the Philippines.

With the information gained from citizens, the study aids in the dissemination

of insights regarding the History of the Philippines. Such insights may be used to help

individuals take certain actions they feel may be appropriate to help educate the

people. The study will be significant to the minimizing of past mistakes which may

lead to lesser conflicts and revolts. It will help agencies like DepEd know what

information may be taught to children staying in schools that will furnish the growth

of the country. The study can be used as a reference by forthcoming researchers who

may find this study a subject of interest.
