Block Plan Design Practice Exercise 1

Using the table below, complete the season block plan using your own situation in
terms of time available, number of students in the class and so on. You can make
adjustments in the Class Context box.

Soccer Season Block Plan


Class Context

Class: 8th Grade; 21 boys/ 20girls; class duration – 50 min.; meets 5 days p. week; 18 classes sessions; class has no
previous experience with SE.

Activity: 4 v 4 Soccer on small field, no goalies.

Equipment: 20 Soccer Balls (size 4 or 5), Four Referee jerseys, 4 fields, goals are 7ft (~ 2m.) wide and 2ft. (~60cm.)
high, with a 10 ft. (~ 3 m.) arc, 4 clipboards, pencils, 4 referee whistles.

Team format: 9teams of 4; 1 team of 5. On league competition days, two teams serve as Duty Teams.

Competition format: Eastern and Western Division each w. 5 teams. First half of season consists of Round Robin
competition within each division. Second half of season consists of Between-division League Championship round
where similarly ranked teams from both divisions play each other

Duty Team Roles: Coach, Captain, Fitness Trainer; Scorekeeper, Official; Sports Board.

Day Class Activities


1 Sport Education introduction: Seasons; Teams; Records; Festivity etc.
Introduction to World Cup Competition
Small sided games
Introduce use of Team Points (their role and function in determining league champions)
2 Class Warm-up and fitness tasks specific to Soccer (led by teacher).
Election of Sport Council (Council includes 5 members).
Skill Practice (led by teacher). (focus on basic skills, incl. maintaining ball possession, trapping, & 1-2
touch passing)
Small-sided possession Games (e.g., 3 v 1; 3 v.2).
