INTRODUCTION

This portfolio contains a brief overview of “The Best Fit Teen Challenge”, conducted by the

class of 2017 as their class project for physical education. The fitness challenge was the first ever

to be hosted on St. Rose’s High School grounds and hopefully it would not be the last.

4
REPORT

Before the Tournament

The planning of the tournament was done at meetings. The first official meeting was called on

May 12th, 2016, where the fitness challenge was agreed upon as the activity the class would be

doing for their Physical Education SBA. The fitness challenge gained priority over the volleyball

tournament since it was the first ever of its kind that will be hosted in the school. The date of the

event was also formulated. Flyers were made to inform the school about the event and to capture

the eyes of persons who were interested in participating in the challenge.

On May 16th, 2016, another meeting was held for the senior officials where the roles were

assigned and sponsors of the event were contacted. The budget was also agreed upon. Donors of

the prizes, food and beverages for the participants were also contacted during this meeting.

On May 21st, 2016, the event was officially known as “The Best Fit Teen Challenge”. The colors

of the various roles were also decided upon. Event Officials had to wear red t-shirts. A

collaboration between St. Rose’s High School and Bishop’s High School was made due to the

few students who were doing physical education at Bishop’s.

On June 20th, 2016, another meeting was held to discuss the changes that were made to the list of

activities the participants had to compete in. On the day before the fitness challenge, the last

official meeting was held to discuss the roles of each individual in the class and the time they

were expected to arrive the following day. The participants’ weight and height was measured and

recorded. Measurements were also made on the field.

5
On the day of the Tournament

Each student was expected to arrive at 6:00am sharp on July 1st, 2016 to assist in preparing for

the tournament. Students partook in a cleaning of the school’s environs where the tournament

was to be kept. After cleaning, the equipment for the tournament was set up.

The students then reported to the Physical Education Department where badges were distributed

and they were reminded of the role they were to play during the tournament. The officials of the

tournament then changed into their respective attire and reported to the back where the

tournament was to be held. The drinks and refreshments for the participants were set up.

The tournament began at 10:30am. Prayers were said and the pledges of both schools and the

pledge of the officials were recited and the event began.

Being a Table Judge (Event Official)

Each table judge was assigned to a particular house and was responsible for registering,

calculating scores and ranking the participants of the house.

Firstly each participant was registered, that is, their first and last names, date of birth, age and the

house they were representing was recorded. A number was then assigned to each participant. The

order in which the participants were to perform were chosen. The forms were then sent to the

field judges to be filled.

After the number of reps and the time the participants took to complete the reps were recorded,

the sheets were then returned to the table judge. Scores were awarded based on the number of

reps te participant completed and time points were awarded according to the time the participant

took to complete the specific amount of reps. The total points was then calculated. The fitness

6
challenge consisted of four rounds, with five activities during each round. The rounds had

varying amounts of reps that must be completed, with the females having the smaller amount.

Participants were then ranked according to the total score and the time score. Rankings were

done separately for male and females. The winners of the various prizes were determined and the

results were taken to the host to be announced. After the event was finished, the area utilized for

the tournament was cleaned.

7
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILTY OF AN EVENT OFFICIAL

(TABLE JUDGE)

The roles and responsibilities of a table judge consist of the following:-

 Registers athletes/participants.

 Records and tabulates scores and statistics on each game.

 Prepares score cards and statistical sheets for the tournament.

 Rank the participants and determine the winners.

8
GENERAL REFLECTIONS

This project was a great success, however, time management was a grave issue. The tournament

did not only begin late, but ended late also. This issue caused an entire round of events to be

cancelled. Also, the field judges were not so clear as to what they were expected to do. They

moved in a slow manner, which often caused strain on the table judges.

9
CONCLUSION

This event was both fun-filled and enjoyable. It was a new experience and a lot of knowledge

was gained on how to plan and carry out a physical education activity.
