Introduction

This School Based Assessment is done in order to finish the Caribbean Secondary Examination
Council exam for Physical Education. The students of the Physical Education group organized the
football competition because students had more knowledge in the game. It was given the name
‘Cornwall College’s Junior League Cup’. Each member of the CSEC group was given specific
roles to perform for the competition to be successful and eventful. The role the researcher was
given for the football competition was that of a team manager.
Acknowledgement

I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my teacher, Mr. MacFarlane, guiding me through the
process of finishing this SBA. I'd also like to extend gratitude to God for making me live to this
point in my life where I have the opportunity to do this SBA. My appreciation is greatly shown
for my parents, fellow organizers and the students of grade 9 who tried whose invaluable
assistance was instrumental in completing this project within the given timeframe.
Aim of project

The aim of this practical is to:

❖ Understand the roles and responsibilities of a team manager.

❖ Carry out my duties to assigned classes.

❖ Complete this project whilst ensuring the players have fun and are provided with

refreshments.
Roles and Responsibilities

What is the role of the Team manager?

The manager's responsibilities in a football club usually include (but are also not limited to) the
following:

❖ Selecting the team of players for matches, and their formation.

❖ Planning the strategy, and instructing the players on the pitch.
❖ Motivating players before and during a match.

Tasks I performed as the Team Manager:

❖ Collect jerseys 2 days before the event.
❖ Have igloos with water and sports drink
❖ Ensured that all the team players were accounted for, well hydrated and ready for their matches.
❖ Established verbal communication amongst the team.
Written Report

Before
Before the tournament, I was assigned the role of a team manager. A team manager is a person who have
been asked to manage the administrative and communication needs of the team. I did some more research
on my roles and responsibilities. This included watching videos on YouTube about famous football team
managers and surfing the web on the role. During the planning phase of the event I was assigned to
two classes along with the coaches. We were then given our selected team colors. We collected
the required entry fee from the classes I was assigned to. Also we collected the names and the
jerseys from the players who were going toparticipate in the event to ensure that everything would
be organized and ready for the upcoming event. I got 2 igloos to store water and sport drinks.
Two cases of water were purchased beforehand to keep the players hydrated duringtheir matches.
We then created the formations and assigned each player to the best position they could play at to
ensure that everyone played at their best and discussed the fixtures to the players on the team.

During the event

Whilst the tournament was commencing, we gathered all the participating players and brought
them to the field to get them ready for their first match.
We gave them warm up drills to complete while I went to collect the necessary information
required for the upcoming matches. After collecting the information, I then got the items we had
already purchased which were required to keep the players hydrated.
A total of ten teams were participating in the tournament. The referees were continuously rotated
and they were active in ensuring that the game went smoothly and that any violation of the rules
of the game was dealt with. A player from one of the teams I was managing was handed a yellow
card for using an explicit term due to another teammate tackling him. After a while the games
were going alright and then down goes a player. The ball contacted the player on the head causing
him to roll over and fall on his hand in a very awkward and painful angle due to the force of the
impact.
The first aid team quickly ran to assist him and then he was carried off the field with his hands
and head wrapped. The other team managers along with the head coaches were actively playing
their roles ensuring that there was some form of control in their teams to try and minimize the
damage endured by the players.
After the event
After the event had ended, we congratulated the players for their excellent work on the field,
we then packed up the player’s gears and igloos.
We then discussed how the players would be awarded according to their points. The
following Monday, the competition manager, coaches and secretary handed out the awards
to first, second, and third-place teams after the match. The winning teams were awarded
medals and were congratulated by fellow classmates, the manager and their coaches.
The one of the teams that I managed placed third after being eliminated during their
semifinal match inwhich they received bronze medals. Even though multiple other teams
lost their matches they were also congratulated for theirexcellent sportsmanship and fair
play.
Recommendations

I suggest that the equipment should be set up a day before the event because it took up some of
the time when the event could have started. Also many players were unorganized which halted
many of the games.
I would also recommend that the players bring their own gears which were needed for them to be
able to perform to their full potential.
Conclusion

The event was a success and the students carried out their roles and responsibilities by ensuring
they did what they are supposed to do and they were actively engaged and gave others who had
the same role as them to get involved. Overall, with hard work, dedication, commitment and
understanding ‘Cornwall College’s Junior League Cup’ was a big success.
