Warming climates threaten mountain-fresh powder snow

The best view of Edmonds is a walk

evergreen trees leading up to the white tops
of the eastern Cascades.
In years to come this view will no
longer be what I have become so familiar
with, the walk will end up looking out at
permanent summer-mountains, with no
glaciers and hardly if any snow at all. Non-
existent trees, just stumps turned into hous-

Refreshing air no longer clear, but plagued

It is horrifying to think that in a closer-

humans depend on will change drastically
because of the habits they have created.
Dreaded most of all are the changes to the
winter season.

Washington State and EdCC’s Paralegal Program pave a new career path
by Rebecca Mullinnix
Staff Writer

Edmonds Community College’s

(EdCC) Paralegal Program has joined
Washington State in a groundbreaking new
career path for paralegals – practicing law.
A paralegal is not allowed to practice
law.
They are prohibited from taking action
that would indicate providing legal advice,
directing clients, setting legal fees or con-
ducting activities other than what they are
approved to under their paralegal technical
degree.
Those activities consist of assisting,
researching, organizing, and interviewing
clients or witnesses, under the watchful
eye of their supervising attorney.
Legal correspondence is often re-
searched and prepared by the paralegal.
The paralegal’s work is required to be re-
viewed by the supervising attorney and
correspondence involving legal advice or
opinion must be signed by the attorney.

Don’t be scared, be prepared at EdCC

By: Melissa Gueiros
Staff Writer

An issue that concerns students, teach-

ers, parents, and visitors is the safety on
campus. We are never completely safe,
there is always a chance to be in danger.
Edmonds Community College Security de-
partment is in place to prevent any risk of
danger. However, active shooter events are
increasing in US. It’s possible to say that
danger can occur anywhere and anytime.
For example, in Oct. 24, 2014 the shoot-
ing in Marysville-Pilchuck high school.
A freshman student killed three girls and
himself. That all happened before the secu-
rity was able to prevent it.
.So the question is: are we safe at the
Edmonds Community College campus?
“No, I don’t feel safe at school be-
cause you never know who is around you.
I rarely see security around” Mark Glinsky
an EdCC student dentist major said. EdCC
has over 20,000 students per quarter and
only seven full-time officers. There is no
way that seven full-time officers can make
sure every single student is safe.
EdCC security department consists
with two security sergeants, seven full-
time officers, one part-time officer, and stu-

Religious groups stirring controversy
By: Marina McDermott
Staff Writer

As you stroll through the Edmonds

Community College’s campus, you may
find more than one person thrusting a reli-
gious paper or pamphlet in your face.
Why? To try to convince you to join
their religion. Now, some folks are nicer by
simply handing you their little papers, but
still make sure you don’t slip away without
receiving anything.
While the First Amendment provides
people with the freedom of religion and
freedom of speech, is it really fair for those
on campus who either hold no religion or
belong to a different religion than those
handing out the information? I don’t be-
lieve so, and I feel as though the college
shouldn’t allow any religion to have the
option to attempt to recruit people on cam-
pus.
I am not religious, nor am I against
anyone who is religious. However I don’t
enjoy it when someone goes out of their
way to hand me something that isn’t rel-
evant to me. As such happened on a cold
morning while I waited in front of the cam-
pus for my ride. I was sitting down and not
paying attention to much around me, when
suddenly I was approached by a young in-
dividual who said,
“Here, read this while you wait” and

Text message dating: the new pre-

I can’t count the number of times that

And nonetheless, we have let dating-

have to admit that text message dating defi-

Seahawks rev up the engines as season continues

By:Ulises Sanchez
Staff Writer
The Seattle Seahawks - home of the
12th Man, 2013 NFL Champions and first-
time Super Bowl Champions - are hav-
ing an unexpectedly rough 2014 season.
In February the city of Seattle rejoiced,
for we had finally won a championship tro-
phy and a world championship banner to
proudly hang in Quest Field. After the Su-
per Bowl win fans were already thinking
about next year and whether they could win
it all again and be back-to-back champions.
This feat hasn’t been accomplished
since the 2004 and 2005 seasons by the New
England Patriots. As of week ten of the NFL
season, and with a winning record of 6-3,
why are fans still worrying about the team?
“It should have been three easy
wins against the Rams, Panthers, and
Raiders, we lost to the Rams and bare-
ly beat Carolina and Oakland” said
Sean Divis, an ex-student at EdCC.
“ I don’t know how we are going to com-
pete when we play against better teams.”
His concerns are all valid; the teams Se-
attle has recently played against include the
Rams Panthers, Raiders and most recently
the Giants. All have losing seasons are not
considered contenders for the playoffs.
Yet the St. Louis Rams who are in last
place in the NFC West with a losing record
of 3-6 managed to beat the Seahawks. What
was supposed to be an easy thrashing of
the Rams turned into an embarrassing loss
and to add insult to injury they pulled an
amazing punt return trick play on Seattle.
