WHAT IS AN
AUTOBIOGRAPHY?

• An autobiography is a story of one’s
own life written by oneself.
• Autobiographies have been written
since A.D. 400 when an early
Christian leader, Saint Augustine,
wrote his.
• This text form falls under personal
recounts which usually retell an event
that the writer is personally involved
in.
How should I start?
• You should think of a catchy
introduction to begin your paragraph
with. It may be:
– A famous quotation
– A line from a song
– A thought provoking question
Questions to answer…
• What is your full name? Is there a
story behind how or why you were
given that name? Do you like or
dislike it dislike it? Why or why not?
• What is your birthday? Is there any
important celebration like Christmas,
New Year’s Eve or Valentine’s day,
when you were born?
• Who are your parents? Their
occupations? Besides being your
parents, what makes them so special
to you? Have you ever received a
very special gift from them?
• Who are your siblings? Are you the
oldest or the youngest child? Who is
your favorite brother or sister?
What makes him/her your favorite?
• How do you spend your free time?
With whom do you spend it? Have you
ever had an unforgettable experience
while spending your spare time with
your friends?
• What is/are your ambition/s in life?
What should you do to achieve
it/them? How you foresee yourself
five or ten years from now?
• Do you have any personal principle in
life? What is it? How can it help you
reach your aspirations in life?
