Course Title: Seminar in Science, Technology, And Society
Topic: Science, Technology, and the Future: New Mentalities, New Practices (Neglected Intangibles)

I. INTRODUCTION
The present special issue explores the role that the science and technology play in the modern common
sense and daily practices. We witness the opening of new era of societal representation were novelties afford new
practices and forge new thinking. The aim of this special issue is to present empirical research fostering the
acceptance of innovations.

II. DISCUSSION
Neglected Intangibles- This has something to do with the barriers of certain kinds of unquantifiable
consideration with regards to controversial scientific and technological innovations.
What would happen in order to keep people from living longer and exacerbating the population problem?
Can the results of scientific research project be so disruptive as to undermine rather than sustain social vitality and
engender chaos or destruction?
The goal of academic discipline is to understand reality so that its knowledge may be used in the service of
man, the intangibles may be explicit or implicit, express or hidden, known or unknown, casual, catalytic or neutral.

This pattern has characterized disputes over innovations as diverse as:

vitro fertilization, the wish for a child within a family are re-defined, acquire legal acceptance, and disturb
traditions and religious codes and foster political debates.

nuclear power, invisible objects ,a subtle elements or abstractions of tangible things. Legacy thinking causes people
to be particularly ignorant about the implications behind the “ you get what you pay for ” mentality applied to a life
necessity. By utilizing “ the veil of ignorance “ one can overcome the barrier of legacy thinking as it requires a
person to imagine that they are un aware of their own circumstances, allowing them to free themselves from
externally imposed thoughts or widely accepted ideas.

and integrated computerized government files on citizens, legacy thinking can impair the ability to drive
technology for the betterment of society by binding people to innovations that do not fit into how the society works.

Intangible Characteristics

1. They have independent existence and are exclusive experiences.

2. Still in diverse waste, they are related and intensely associated with each other.
3. Understanding only one particular form of reality without knowing about and caring for the other related
forms, often creates confusion, uncertainly and distortion of the entire research venture.
4. Means, method , tools and devices can burry from case to case.
5. Stop gap arrangements or temporary measures to deal with them or leaving parts of research ventures may
not be treated as permanent solutions.

It is believed that one day the development of technology will be the cause of death of humanity. Controversial
scientific developments, which in the future can be dangerous to mankind.
