Analog to Digital Converter

An analog to digital converter (ADC,A/D,or A to D) is a
device that converts a continuous physical quantity (usually voltage) to a
digital number that represents the quantity’s amplitude.

We needed the ADC for convert analog signal to digital signal. The ADC includes in
microprocessor can only perform complex processing on digitalized signals. When the
signals are in digital form, they are less susceptible to the deleterious effects of addictive
noise. The ADC in microprocessor provides a link between the analog world of transducers
and the digital world of signal processing and data handling.

Mainly there are some important applications of ADC.The ADC includes in the
microprocessors are used virtually everywhere where an analog signal has to be
processed,stored,or transported in digital form.Microcontrollers commonly use 8, 10, 12,
or 16 bit ADCs.
There are many different types of ADCs.Each offers something in the way of speed, cost,
power dissipation, complexity.
1. Integrating ADC.
2. Successive approximation ADC.
3. Flash and pipeline ADCs.
4. Delta-Sigma ADC.
