Abstract
Engineers can help to change our economy to be a better place. This study hence
examined the reasons of students why they want to become an engineer and to know the
advantages of picking an engineer course
Technology over the past few years has boomed a lot. People nowadays admiring to
become an engineer because engineer course are the one what is on trend. Engineering course
can improve our way of living and can enhance our economy and no one knows that you might
be able to invent some machinery to solve our community problems.
The researchers conducted a qualitative research using the Interpretative Phenomenal
Analysis (IPA) as an approach since this study had attempt to understand the participants make
sense of their perceptions, opinions, and it involves a process of interpretation. There were 15
questions for the survey and we’ve selected 15 respondents of Sta. Rosa National High School.
The result shows the different perspectives of person why they want to become an
engineer someday. It can be because this was their dream job or maybe because they want to
become just like their idols.

I. INTRODUCTION
A.BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Getting to college is one of the walls that you must overcome to get word “diploma”.
The hardest part of getting to college is choosing the course you want to take. Most of the
student has an interesting on choosing the course engineering. They have their own reasons
why they choose this kind of engineering. For example, he chooses that kind of engineering
because this was his parent’s decision or maybe this was his dream job.
There are many types of engineering options available for high schooler’s. It has its
own benefits for the economy and for the people in it. For example, the electrical engineering,
they deal the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The
mechanical engineering, they deal the study of construction, design and use of machines.
Civil engineering, they deal the study of planning, designing and maintenance of building
structures, and facilities. The agriculture engineering, they deal the study of agricultural
production and processing. “Scientists investigate that which already is; Engineers create that
which has never been”- Albert Einstein
Even if you are obsess that you want to become an engineer(any) there are many
possible hindrance before you can achieve this. For example, you have no money or your
parents don’t want you to become an engineer. These are just the example of hindrance for
achieving your dream job. This research studies why students want to become engineers. This
research will help aspiring students to know more why they really want to become an engineer
someday

B. PURPOSE OF STUDY
The Purpose of this research is to determine the benefits of the different kinds of
engineering. To give more knowledge to the students about of this kind of course and give
them the details of the specific kind of engineering. To guide aspiring engineer (students) for
choose this specific kind of engineering. To motivate students that still doubting to choose an
engineer course by getting the opinions of others.
C. GUIDING QUESTIONS
What kind of engineer you admire to be? Why did you want to be this engineer? What
are the benefits of choosing this kind of engineer? What are those possible hindrances to
achieve this? How can you overcome these hindrances so that you can achieve the engineering
career you want to be? These questions will help you to really understand why did you chose
this kind of engineering.

D. DELIMITATION AND LIMITATION
The main focus of this research is about the “Reasons of students why they want to
become the specific engineering course”. I will get the opinions and response of fifteen (15)
students of Sta. Rosa National High School who admire to be an engineer someday. It is about
their reason why they want to be an engineer someday and maybe this research will be their
guidelines to choose a specific engineering course. And since, this is a Convenience Sampling
procedure, I can’t force students to answer my questionnaire. This research starts on “1st week
of July” ended in “1st week of October”.

E. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is conducted to benefits the people to know what engineering is. For Grade
11 students who want to become an engineer; this study will be the guidelines for knowing the
benefits of choosing the engineering course. For Grade 10 students who want to become an
engineer; this research will be their reference to know the benefits of choosing the specific kind
of engineers. For Grade 9 students who doubt to choose an engineering course; this research
will be their guide to help them to don’t doubt anymore to choose the specific course.
Overall, this research study will be the reference of the students of SRNHS: the grade
9-11 students in giving a standard and guidelines for knowing the reasons to pick an
engineering course for them.

F. Definition of terms
Agricultural Engineer - they deal the study of agricultural
production and processing.
Civil Engineer - they deal the study of planning, designing and maintenance of building
structures, and facilities.
Electrical Engineer – professional engineering discipline that generally deals with the study
and application of electricity
Electromagnetism – interaction of electric currents or field and magnetic fields
Hindrance – a thing that provides resistance, delay, or obstruction to something or someone
Mechanical Engineer - they deal the study of construction, design and use of machines.
Narrow - limited in extent, amount, or scope; restricted
Reference – use of source of info in order to ascertain something

II. Related Review of Literature

Engineering is an extensive subject, and with so many types of engineering to choose
from, it can be difficult to narrow down which one is for you. To help you decide, you should
try and identify what you’re passionate about. What gets you excited, and what do you spend
your free time on? All types of engineering include some form of problem-solving (and
generally focus on making life easier), but what engineering-related solution gives you the
most buzz? If you choose a subject you’re naturally interested in, you’ll find it easier to stay
motivated during your course, and stay involved with the subject whilst pursuing an
engineering career.
Engineering is a basically a combination of theory and practical. Keeping this in view
and thinking about the course will help you to make decision about you choice. Let me start
with Civil engineering, this is a wonderful course and almost every college have good
infrastructure for this, both in terms of faculty and laboratories. On the other hand this is really
a tough job and most of the going to sites and taking care of construction management stuff.
You can not make good money in this field working for someone and starting own company
need good investment and contacts, which is difficult for a common Indian family. Mechanical
Engineering comes with similar issues.
Electronics and Electrical Engineering are very good and highly job oriented courses.
No doubts and questions about that fact. But when it comes to faculty and practical
experiments most of the colleges does not have sufficient infrastructure. Moreover after
finishing most of these engineers work in software companies as there no sufficient companies

who work in core areas of Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
At last we are left with Computer engineering and IT. The infrastructure required for
these courses is very easy to provide and if teaching is not good at college finding a tutor
outside
even in a small town is not a problem. More importantly when google, Microsoft and other
top companies come for campus interviews they don’t allow any other stream than CS and IT.
Even after electrical or electronics engineering one goes to software jobs, more over top
software companies do not allow them to appear for test and interview. Therefore, I don’t see
any logic in going for these courses if computer science or IT is available. We have more
software companies than any other companies. These companies pay good salaries and also
give a chance for foreign assignments that will further enhance your personal and professional

III. Methodology
A.Design/Procedure
This research is a questionnaire study,in which we will analyze and interpret the answer
of our participants to answer the research question.And for the sampling procedure,researcher
used a convenience sampling wherein the respondents who were willing and available
participated in this study.
B. Subject/Participants
This research is focused on Why Students want to become an engineer. We selected 20
students of Sta. Rosa National High School in different grade levels to be part of this research
because this research is about “Engineering: Student’s Stairway to Success”.We want to know
their opinions.

C. Instrument
This study utilized a self-designed survey questionnaire. The questionnaire serves as the
instrument in gathering data.

My first respondent is Fresnhel Y. Doctor, a grade 11 student from Brgy. 10 San
Miguel Sarrat, Ilocos Norte. According to him, he absolutely likes engineering. He wants to
take Agricultural engineering on college. He picks this course because he wants to be like his
idol. He said this kind of engineering can boost our speed of technology, can enhance our way
of living and it will help our people to improve. He said he was inspired by an engineer (Engr.
Pacog). He was inspired because of his commitment to his works. He said financial problem
can become one of the hindrances to achieve his life goals. He said to overcome this he must
become a working student to support his financial status.
He said you must excel in math category to be a successful engineer. He will do
anything to achieve his life goals or to be the engineer he wants to become. He said taking an
engineering course can affect his standard in our society. He said this can boost his confidence

V. Conclusion
A. Summary and Generalization
Most of the students of Sta. Rosa National High School have different taste of choosing
an engineering course. The main purpose of this study was to determine if what will be the
outcome of “Why Students want to become an Engineer”, therefore the students of Sta. Rosa
National High School will educate them to know more about this kind of engineering and this
will become their manual of chasing their dreams.
Based on the research we conducted, our respondents have different point of view and
insights. Most of the students want to become an Civil Engineer and only few picks
Agricultural Engineering and Etc. They says Civil Engineer because this course is the most
enjoyable and most trend on the engineering world.
The result of this research we conduct in an open ended questions most of them was
inspired by one Engineer and that’s Engineer Remigio B. Medrano. Also most students are
says that once hindrance that will slow them to reach their goals is financial problem and they
are all willing to become a working students if needed. They also say that you must excel in
mathematics to get your aspiring job. In addition to this they say that they will inspire others
when they become a successful engineer and they believe that “engineering” can make our life
easier and make our community more advance in the future.

B.Recommendation
At the moment, in our school has the STEM or Science Technology Engineering
Mathematics class that helps students to be ready when they go to college for those who want
to become an engineer someday. In STEM they really focus on Science, Especially Math for
those students who will get an engineering course once they will step on the college life.
